Major League Baseball’s Infrastructure Engineering team is building the next evolution of our global delivery platform, the MLB Edge Platform, a new layer designed to bring MLB’s digital experiences closer to fans by operating at the intersection of CDN, network, and cloud technologies.
We’re looking for an Edge Engineer to help design, build, and operate this new edge tier, shaping how millions of fans experience live games, video, and data. This is a hands-on role for a systems-minded engineer who thrives at the boundary between infrastructure and software, where performance, caching, reliability, and automation converge.
You’ll collaborate closely with engineers across Cloud Platform, SRE, InfoSec, and Engineering to operate high-throughput, low-latency systems that ensure MLB’s digital platforms remain fast, reliable, and secure at global scale.
Responsibilities
- Deploy and Operate the Edge Tier: Implement and maintain MLB’s edge-tier infrastructure, bridging CDN and cloud to optimize routing, availability, and resiliency
- Optimize for Scale and Performance: Configure caching, load balancing, and traffic management systems that sustain millions of requests per second using technologies like HAProxy, Fastly, and GCP
- Automate and Simplify: Build repeatable infrastructure patterns and automation pipelines using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD frameworks
- Design for Security: Implement and maintain secure network configurations, certificate management, and traffic protection controls. Collaborate with InfoSec to apply modern security standards, best practices, and automation at the edge
- Engineer for Reliability: Embed observability and self-healing capabilities into edge systems. Drive operational excellence through metrics, monitoring, and automated recovery
- Collaborate Across Domains: Partner with Cloud Platform, SRE, and Security teams to define best practices around edge configuration, service resilience, and traffic control
- Evolve the Platform: Contribute to the continued evolution of MLB’s multi-cloud edge and CDN strategy by evaluating new technologies and patterns that enhance efficiency and fan experience.
Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of experience in infrastructure or systems engineering, ideally focused on high-scale web delivery or CDN architectures
- Strong knowledge of network and application security concepts, including TLS, WAFs, DDoS mitigation, and certificate management
- Familiarity with HAProxy for reverse proxy and load-balancing
- Strong understanding of DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP/S, routing, and network fundamentals
- Hands-on experience operating in GCP, AWS, or hybrid cloud environments
- Proficiency with Linux/Unix systems, shell scripting, and infrastructure-as-code tools
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines for automated provisioning and configuration management
- Familiarity with Go, Python, or Bash for scripting, tooling, or automation tasks
- Knowledge of caching strategies, observability practices, and performance tuning at the edge
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across distributed systems
- Curiosity for learning, automation mindset, and a reliability-first approach
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with implementing and managing Zero Trust principles at the edge.
- Experience with CDN log streaming, real-time telemetry, and traffic replay systems
- Proficiency with edge compute frameworks
- Experience designing and operating multi-region and multi-cloud systems
- Working knowledge of secure automation practices, including secrets management and least-privilege access models
- Proven ability to work within Agile/Scrum teams, contributing to sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement
