An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Systems & Safety Group Lead to join our Electrical Controls and Instrumentation (EC&I) Systems and Safety team at Rolls-Royce Submarines.

The EC&I Systems and Safety team develops the system design, safety case and information assurance case for the Reactor Control and Instrumentation, Power Systems and Plant Sensors for the Dreadnought and SSN AUKUS classes of submarine.

What you will be doing:

As Group Lead for EC&I Systems & Safety, you will be leading a growing team of systems, safety and information assurance engineers with responsibility for:

  • Delivery of work packages across the SSN AUKUS and Dreadnought programmes.
  • Development of EC&I System concepts and supporting design documentation.
  • Assessment of the safety and security of the EC&I System and delivery of documentation to develop and support the safety and information assurance cases.
  • Integration and stakeholder management across the programmes with both internal and external customers.
  • Ensuring process adherence and appropriate governance is applied to all activities.
  • Day to day coaching and direction of the team’s activities in line with the wider plan.

Required:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in an electrical/electronics, systems engineering, maths or physics discipline.
  • Excellent leadership qualities and great people skills with the ability to effectively communicate and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing complex technical programmes.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and functional safety throughout the engineering lifecycle.

One or more of the below is desired:

  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (eg DOORS).
  • Experience in the application of functional safety principles.
  • Familiarity with the principles of security engineering.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated industry.
