Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining the Drug Room, checking and entering orders, ordering medications and supplies, and filling medication carts on the nursing units.

Minimum Education: Completion of a state approved Licensed Practical Nurse program or registered nurse coursework approved by the Board of Nursing as practical nurse equivalency.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Licensed Practical Nurse License.

Work Experience: 1 - 3 years related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of general disease state management processes, bio- psychosocial model, and clinical pathways. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: The Drug Room Coordinator per SFHS policy and instructions from the Pharmacist-in-Charge ensures the secure storage of medication within the drug room. When on duty only the Drug Room Coordinator may authorize the removal of a drug from the drug room. Per SFHS policy and Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy regulations a record of all drugs removed from the drug room when the Pharmacist-in- Charge is not present shall be maintained by the Drug Room Coordinator. The Drug Room Coordinator collaborates with nurses assigned to the drug room as needed to meet patient drug needs. The Drug Room Coordinator performs all inventory management duties required to maintain adequate supply of drugs to meet the needs of the patients to include: ordering, receiving, inventory control, look alike sound alike precautions, high alert drug precautions and record keeping. The Drug Room Coordinator ensures that timely inspections of all drug storage areas including the drug room are performed and all expired or adulterated drugs are maintained separate and apart from in date inventory. The Drug Room Coordinator is responsible for ensuring System policy and State regulations are followed at all times.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
