PROJECT SUMMARY:

Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) is an eight-year (2019–2027) global health initiative project funded by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The project receives Global Health Security (GHS) funding to strengthen global, regional, and local public health systems to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to zoonotic and infectious diseases, building on broad experience and existing capabilities that align with GHS priorities, National Action Plans for Health Security (NAPHS), American First GHS Strategy (AFGHS) and United States Government (USG) goals. EpiC has presence in more than 60 countries and extensive breadth and depth of technical experience in the 10 priority GHS technical areas, FHI 360, and our consortium partners are ready to rapidly implement GHS programming.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation services for Staff, Consortium Partners, Consultants, HQ staff on TDY in country, and authorized goods in support of the EpiC GHS program activities in Ghana. The role requires strict adherence to road safety regulations, organizational policies, and security procedures, while maintaining assigned vehicles in good working conditions. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Transportation and Logistics

  • Safely transport staff, consultants, partners, and visitors to meetings, project sites, airports, and other official destinations.
  • Support field missions and program activities by ensuring timely and dependable transport.
  • Deliver documents, equipment, supplies, and other authorized items as required.
  • Plan routes in advance, taking into account traffic conditions, road safety, and security considerations.

Vehicle Management

  • Conduct daily vehicle checks including fuel, oil, water, brakes, tires, and lights
  • Ensure assigned vehicles are kept clean, roadworthy, and properly secured at all times
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel records, and mileage reports
  • Arrange routine servicing and report mechanical faults promptly to the supervisor
  • Ensure vehicle insurance, roadworthiness certificates, and other documentation are valid and available

Safety, Security, and Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to Ghana Road Traffic Regulations and FHI 360’s transport/travel and safety policies
  • Follow organizational security protocols, especially during field travel and emergency situations
  • Ensure the safety of passengers and vehicle contents at all times
  • Report accidents, incidents, or security concerns immediately in line with reporting procedures

Administrative Support

  • Provide basic administrative or logistical support when not driving, as requested
  • Assist with loading and unloading of goods and equipment
  • Support office operations during peak periods or special events

   

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Ghana’s road networks and traffic regulations.
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively
  • Good understanding of vehicle maintenance and basic mechanical issues.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and in challenging road or security conditions.
  • Knowledge of Greater Accra and other regions in Ghana, and key information on geo-political history of Ghana.
  • Proven experience driving in both urban and rural areas in Ghana.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid

Qualifications:

  • Basic Education Certificate
  • Minimum of 5-year professional driving experience, preferably with an International NGO’s especially USG funded projects, or corporate environment.       
  • Ability to write and speak basic English. Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
  • Valid Ghanaian driver’s license with clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
  • Basic knowledge of computing
