Summary of main challenges

Modern aircraft generate vast maintenance, flight, and technical data. This internship focuses on predictive AI/ML for failure detection and agent-based knowledge mining to provide real-time, context-aware guidance to engineers by integrating flight data and aircraft documentation.

Objectives:

Data Collection & Processing

  • Build a pipeline to ingest maintenance logs, flight data (ACARS/FMS), and technical documentation (AMM/SDM).

  • Clean and validate data for AI training.

AI/ML for Predictive Maintenance

  • Develop models (supervised/unsupervised/time-series) to predict failures using historical and real-time aircraft data.

  • Expand models to correlate maintenance events with flight conditions.

Agent-Based Knowledge Mining (RAG Framework)

  • Design a RAG system to retrieve and generate context-aware technical responses by linking AI models with:

    • Flight data (e.g., sensor anomalies).

    • Aircraft documentation (e.g., AMM/SDM procedures).

  • Ensure seamless integration with Airbus data ecosystems (e.g., SAP, A320/A350 tools).

System Validation

  • Implement a pilot case study (e.g., APU or landing gear failures) to demonstrate AI + RAG capabilities.

  • Validate accuracy and usability with Airbus engineers.

This role requires the ability to adapt to MAP environment and to develop strong links with all Engineering, DTO, FAL, Flight Tests, Flight Line, Flight Crews, Quality, Delivery and Production teams.
