The Director, Student-Athlete Development serves as a primary academic advisor for assigned teams and/or student-athletes, providing individualized support to promote academic success. This position collaborates closely with coaches, faculty, and campus partners to monitor academic performance, ensure NCAA and institutional eligibility requirements are met, and connect student-athletes with the resources they need to be successful. The Assistant Director also contributes to the planning and execution of student-athlete development programming and supports the day-to-day operations of OSAD.
What you will do:
Assist in day-to-day operations of the Office of Student-Athlete Development.
Provide intensive academic support with assigned teams and/or student-athletes.
Work one-on-one to develop and implement learning strategies and effective study skills within the framework of the students’ academic and athletic time demands.
Monitor academic performance and implement individualized plans for at-risk student-athletes to support them in meeting institutional and NCAA eligibility requirements.
Monitor progress-towards-degree and other NCAA, conference, and university academic eligibility requirements.
Assist in the oversight of academic support operations within the Office of Student-Athlete Development including study hall monitoring, tutor coordination, and monitoring class attendance.
Prepare weekly reports detailing academic progress and issues.
Assist with registration process, certification for competition, and Academic Progress Rates (APR) data collection.
Evaluate transcripts for all incoming student-athletes.
Assist with student-athlete development programming and community service events.
Provide leadership and guidance for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Collaborate with campus partners to have student-athletes engage with campus-sponsored events.
Serve as a liaison to academic departments, faculty, and campus support offices as needed.
Meet with prospective student-athletes and assist during the recruiting process.
Provide supervision to student support staff as assigned.
Assist with training, onboarding, and professional development of staff within the Office of Student-Athlete Development.
Other duties as assigned.
What you need:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required in the disciplines of Education, Counseling, or Sports Administration or related field; Master Degree preferred.
Previous experience working with students at the collegiate level.
Experience in a student-athlete advising environment.
Experience in using degree audit reports and student information systems.
Experience in the development of tutoring and advising programs and knowledge of the theory of learning and study skills improvement strategies.
Must successfully pass a background check and fingerprinting.
