Position Summary

The Director, Strategic Planning is responsible for helping to define and orchestrate an enhanced strategic planning process at MultiCare Health System. This role will be responsible for working to create and then execute upon a comprehensive, multilayered process that provides an organizational and coordinating function to a fast-growing health system. In addition, this role will provide assistance with executing upon strategic growth projects on an as needed basis. This role requires an executive with strong healthcare, strategic planning, and organizational expertise that thrives in working closely and facilitating results with stakeholders across the health system, including senior executives. The position reports directly to the Vice President, Strategy & Business Development.

Essential Functions

1. Assist in Developing an Enhanced System-Wide Strategic Planning Process

Working with the Senior Vice President & Chief Growth Officer, as well as the Vice President, Strategy & Business Development to conceptualize, draft, and implement a new, enhanced system-wide strategic planning process for MultiCare Health System.  This new strategic planning process must help provide greater organization and clarity as to the objectives, priorities, and initiatives that will be pursued by business units throughout the health system.  Once created, the strategic planning process will be refined and iterated upon over time.

2. Facilitate Strategic Planning Meetings

The Director, Strategic Planning will be required to facilitate numerous strategic planning meetings across the health system, ensuring the meeting timelines and goals are met.  The role will ensure that such planning sessions identify and document the system’s optimal strategic objectives, key performance measures, and initiatives/tactics.

3. Develop Process for Making Market Assessment, Environmental and Demographic Data Available to Internal Stakeholders

Working with Data Analytics teams, the Director, Strategic Planning is expected to provide key market assessment, environmental and demographic data to strategic planning stakeholders.  The data provided will be in a format that is easy to review and actionable.

4. Cascade the Strategic Planning Process Across the System

This role will work with stakeholders across the system to ensure that the health system strategic objectives are cascaded down to each business unit of the company to improve alignment and organization across the system.  The Director, Strategic Planning will also work with business unit leaders and the Finance team to effectively coordinate the strategic planning process with the capital and operating budget. 

5. Assist with Strategic Growth Projects  

MultiCare is engaged with a number of strategic growth projects throughout the year, including mergers & acquisitions, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and affiliations.  On an as needed basis, this role will assist the Vice President, Strategy & Business Development in organizing the health system approach to such projects, as well as helping to execute upon the primary work streams for such projects. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, nursing, or a related healthcare field.

  • Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.

  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare operations, enterprise strategy, or related roles.

  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-wide initiatives involving senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Experience preparing strategic deliverables that inform leadership decision making and then operationalizing on such plans.

  • Experience facilitating planning sessions with senior executives and clinicians.

  • Experience integrating programs and services to create greater system and customer value.

  • Experience within a multi-market or integrated healthcare delivery system preferred.

  • Direct experience supporting or managing ambulatory surgery center, rehabilitation, or other joint venture arrangements preferred.

  • Experience partnering with enterprise strategy or strategic planning functions preferred.

  • Completion of a healthcare administrative fellowship or formal leadership development program preferred.

  • Experience developing or using KPI dashboards, scorecards, or enterprise reporting tools preferred.

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $150,925.00 - $217,194.00 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
