The Opportunity
This role reports directly to the SVP of Technical Services. As the Director of Sales Engineering, you will lead a high-performing, global team of Sales Engineers while remaining deeply hands-on as a technical contributor. This is a true player-coach role in which you will guide the team strategically and operationally, while also engaging directly with key prospects, complex evaluations, and high-stakes demonstrations.
You will oversee Sales Engineering responsibilities across both sides of our business: our established CDI platform and our rapidly expanding real-time customer intelligence product, Snowplow Signals. Success in this role requires strong leadership capabilities, credibility with technical and executive stakeholders, and the ability to model exemplary Sales Engineering craft.
What you'll be doing:
Leadership & Team Development
● Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Sales Engineers across the US and EMEA.
● Establish and refine best-in-class Sales Engineering practices, processes, and playbooks.
● Serve as a technical and strategic escalation point for complex evaluations and enterprise opportunities.
● Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration.
Strategic Contribution
● Partner closely with Sales Leadership, Product, Engineering, and Marketing to align Snowplow’s technical narrative with market needs and evolving buyer priorities.
● Shape Snowplow’s technical positioning across CDI and Signals, informing demo strategy, proof-of-concept design, and technical storytelling.
● Collaborate closely with Post-Sales Technical Services to deliver strong commercial value from customer acquisition through to product adoption
● Contribute to competitive strategy with clear, opinionated perspectives on Snowplow’s strengths and areas for improvement relative to key players in the CDI, CDP, and real-time intelligence markets.
Hands-On Sales Engineering
● Be passionate about realtime ecosystemsWork alongside Account Executives, particularly on strategic enterprise accounts and complex opportunities.
● Demonstrate the value of Snowplow’s CDI and Signals capabilities through technical demos, notebooks, prototypes, and data assets.
● Qualify opportunities, identify customer use cases, and architect solutions across industry verticals such as retail, media, digital products, and financial services.
● Work with Post-Sales Technical Services to standardize field code and industry solutions which support the customer journey from PoC through to production
● Act as a trusted advisor to senior technical stakeholders including CTOs, Heads of Data, data engineers, analysts, data scientists, and product leaders.
We’d Love to Hear From You If:
● 10+ years of Sales Engineering or equivalent technical pre-sales experience, including at least 5 years managing Sales Engineering teams.
● A strong data-centric background, with hands-on experience in areas such as data engineering, cloud architectures, behavioral data, streaming systems, or machine learning pipelines.
● Comfortable in Python and experience developing and presenting analyses using Jupyter Notebooks.
● Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms, data warehouses, data modeling, and real-time data processing.
● Experience supporting technical evaluations, designing proofs of concept, and presenting to senior technical and business stakeholders.
● Experience with composable software ecosystems, systems integration and headless or API-driven architectures, e.g. MACH Alliance or Composable CDP, is highly desirable.
● Experience with real-time data processing technologies such as Kafka or similar streaming platforms is highly desirable.
● Strong communication, storytelling, and executive-level presentation skills.
● The ability to operate as both a leader and an individual contributor, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on involvement.
● Highly organized, disciplined, and capable of managing multiple priorities across regions and product lines.
