Job Description

What is the opportunity?

In this role, you will provide oversight, advice and counsel on Enterprise Strategic Client Group (ESCG) client-related risk escalations to ESCG team members and/or LOBs.  These are some of RBC’s largest and most complex enterprising families and include Established clients as well as additional clients that are asked to be stewarded by the ESCG from RBC Executives. Aspects of risk may include risks to the ESCG brand, AML, country risk, legal/regulatory risk, operational risk and reputational risk. 

What will you do?

Strategy Formulation

  • Continuously develop the ESCG risk framework and identify opportunities to streamline procedures/processes, address gaps/deficiencies and improve the ability to identify an ESCG client through LOBs at point of on-boarding or escalation.

  • Support and continuously evolve Enterprise oversight committees that include the ESC Oversight Committee, ESC Triage Committee, for maximum effectiveness to focus on critical ESCG client matters that require robust engagement and discussion with timely outcomes.

  • Maintain and continue to assess the overall governance of the team’s risk conduct, particularly, BCM and Privacy reviews and other compliance obligations.

Client Servicing & Transaction Execution

  • Liaise with ECSG clients, with the ESCG senior coverage team and/or with the appropriate LOB, to understand, evaluate and help execute complex requests from time to time

  • Ensure enterprise risk oversight by partnering with internal partners to provide advice and counsel (as appropriate) to LOBs on complex matters such as high-risk business sectors involving cryptocurrency, cannabis, etc.; put forward persuasive factors relating to global trends, the economy, governments, reputable third-party associations to internal partners to balance risk vs. reward in management of high-risk enterprise clients; identify alternative/new solutions outside of business policies and procedures that continue to meet regulatory requirements; when appropriate, pursue exception requests.

  • Collaborate with dedicated AML partners globally to complete enhanced due diligence (EDD) for prospective and existing clients, applying the Enterprise Global Passport, as/if applicable, and ensuring that these work efforts are streamlined and expedited to onboard prioritized clients; swift resolution of any escalation and provide input to gain a balanced enterprise risk appetite outcome for each ESCG client.

  • Act as a key stakeholder of the ESCG Triage Committee whose objective is to evaluate incoming prospective clients put forward by Deputy Chair and Vice Chairs, taking into consideration ESCG thresholds, various factors that may elevate client risk and home of best fit.  

  • Build decision framework, approach and workflows for managing internal ESCG (KYC processes

Enterprise Collaboration

  • Work closely with LOBs, GRM, Compliance, AML, Privacy, Tax and other key functions for sensitive or elevated risk ESCG clients to ensure a timely resolution of client issues and escalations considering the best solution to satisfy regulatory obligations while minimizing client recourse.

  • Act as a key point person within ESCG for risk-related interactions with RBC’s key functional groups, in particular, Global Compliance, AML, Privacy, Law Group and Group Tax to promote the ESCG brand and instill confidence in ESCG, internally within RBC and with the clients to whom ESCG provides senior coverage, and represent/support the ESCG on RBC Risk committees within LOBs and Functional Groups as appropriate

What do you need to succeed?

Must haves:

  • Experience in risk management, good knowledge of banking regulatory requirements and best practices related to risk management practices globally

  • Experience leading and/or supporting complex KYC on boarding / escalations

  • Experience working in a matrixed environment actively managing a diverse group of stakeholders

  • Depth or breadth of risk management experience (1LOD or 2LOD)

  • Expertise in creating and deploying best practices and methodologies, and ability to assimilate and interpret information covering a wide range of differing business areas and risk/regulatory dimensions

  • Skills in building a network and maintaining key relationships

  • Excellent communication and presentation (verbal and written) skills

Nice-to-have:

  • Understanding of UHNW client base and the complexity of client needs and solutions requirements

  • Direct AML and operational risk experience MBA or Professional Designation
