The Regional KYC Risk & Controls Lead for APAC is a newly established director-level position designed to address AML / KYC requirements across the APAC region. This role sits within the first line of defence (1LOD) and serves as a single point of contact for AML activities between the 1LOD and the second line of defence (2LOD), driving regional engagement, alignment, and governance.

The role is responsible for overseeing AML / KYC risks, incident management, and the implementation of efficient, standardized processes and controls. This position is integral to maintaining regional consistency, supporting change management initiatives, and ensuring the organization remains agile and compliant in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

Main Responsibilities

  • Regional Engagement & Alignment
    • Single Point of Contact for AML Activities: Act as the liaison between Business 1LOD (including Business, Global KYC Strategy Office and Branches) and the 2LOD for all AML related activities. Ensure seamless communication and coordination to address AML processes and system requirements.
    • Strengthen 1LOD Presence: Enhance the visibility and influence of 1LOD among wider stakeholders. Foster strong relationships and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
    • Represent APAC: Act as the APAC representative in the global network. Share best practices to align local and regional strategies with global objectives.
    • Stay Updated with Business Demands: Keep abreast of business demands across APAC and ensure branches are equipped with the necessary tools and resources to meet these demands effectively.
  • Risk & Regulatory Compliance
    • Identify, Track and Govern Risks: Oversee all AML / KYC risk-related issues, breaches, and incidents relevant to 1LOD across APAC region. Implement a robust risk management framework to ensure all potential risks are identified and mitigated effectively across APAC branches.
    • Anticipate and Prevent AML Regulatory Issues: Proactively identify upcoming AML challenges across APAC and initiate preventive measures to reduce unnecessary regulatory issues. Stay informed about regulatory changes and ensure compliance.

  • Governance and Change Management
    • Align KYC Metrics and Manage Exceptions: Collaborate with all APAC branches to standardize KYC metrics, manage exception handling processes and BSC impact criteria.
    • Streamline Policies and Processes: Work with 2LOD to streamline local / region-specific policies and processes, ensuring efficiency and consistency in operations.
    • Establish Governance Structure: Develop and implement a strong regional governance structure for 1LOD (Business + KYC). Ensure consistency and compliance with global standards.

  • Efficiency and Execution
    • Manage 1LOD Project Deliverables: Oversee APAC-specific project deliverables for 1LOD, ensuring they meet the required standards and are fit for purpose. Monitor progress and address any issues promptly.
    • Identify and Eliminate Waste in KYC: Collaborate with the business to identify potential inefficiencies within KYC processes. Focus on absolute priorities to optimize resource allocation.
    • Reinforce RACI for Balanced KYC Execution: Ensure a balanced execution of KYC by reinforcing the RACI matrix with the business.
    • Centralized Management of Customer Complaints and Near Misses: Serve as the central point for managing customer complaints and near misses related to 1LOD KYC. Implement effective resolution strategies and track outcomes.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, legal or related fields
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in AML / KYC operations, preferably within a global organization, in a role directly involved with driving change, organizational enhancement and critical program delivery.
  • Proven experience in managing large AML / KYC initiatives across multiple locations.
  • Understanding of AML / KYC / Regulatory regimes in APAC as well as corporate and investment banking products.
  • Strong stakeholder management such as conflict resolution, consensus building skills, and an ability to build partnerships and influence beyond area of responsibility.
  • You will be highly organized, with a structured and logical approach
