Job Description:

Astera Cancer Care has an opportunity for a motivated candidate to work in a leadership position with a premier Radiation Oncology practice as Director of Radiation Oncology Services. This position is responsible for managing the operations of a free-standing radiation oncology center as well as practice management for a large private radiation oncology group. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, hospital administrators, clinical and operational staff. Ability to manage projects from conception to successful implementation. Strong knowledge of revenue cycle and coding required. Oversite of financial aspects of the practice including revenue, compliance and scheduling of physicians and staff. Strong customer service and operational skills to manage staff in a busy freestanding center, creating an environment that supports growth while providing quality service to patients, physicians and center staff.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Candidate will provide management guidance for a large radiation oncology physician practice as well as run daily operations of a freestanding radiation oncology clinic. Candidates must have the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, hospital administrators, clinical and operational staff. Robust knowledge of revenue cycle and coding required. Oversight of financial aspects of the practice including revenue, compliance and scheduling of physicians and staff. Strong customer service and operational skills to manage and coordinate all activities as directed by the management committee, providing quality service to patients, physicians and center staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operation of the Center in Monroe

  • Proactively plans, coordinates, and manages the center operations, staff, and procurement. Effectively coordinates center activities.
  • Reviews and evaluates cost systems, data collection, and medical records coding and documentation procedures to assure appropriate reimbursement and collections for patient services and proper recording of relevant patient treatment/payment information.
  • Prepares reports, documents, and statistical surveys pertaining to the center.
  • Continually analyzes financial, statistical and referral data to identify unusual operating or referral trends and areas for improvement.
  • Recommends the need for new facilities, space and replacement or modification of existing
  • equipment.
  • Maintains working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to center operations meeting all regulatory requirements while maintaining best practices.
  • Responsible for the policies and procedures of the Center, implements new or improved procedures when appropriate.
  • Meets regularly with the Medical Director and consults with physicians and physicists on a continuing basis to ensure that all departmental clinical functions run smoothly, to ensure that the department is equipped with all necessary assets to provide optimal patient care in a supportive environment.
  • Actively works with the physician billing services assuring practice meets current requirements.
  • Champions fiscal processes which support sound use of center resources. Responsible for procurement of supplies, works closely with account payable department staff to assure invoices are processed per group policy.
  • Promotes staff development through education, performance evaluation and identification of goals to enhance growth
  • Conducts staff meetings at appropriate intervals to exchange information and promote dialogue.
  • Responsibility in the recruitment, interview, selection, and retention of qualified personnel.
  • Hires, evaluates, promotes, and dismisses all technical and clerical staff or mentors to satisfactory levels.
  • Works directly with the physician staff to ensure proper Quality of Care is delivered to the patient.
  • Participate in meetings and/or seminars on a regular basis to maintain personal and professional growth
  • Responsible for the overall quality and patient process improvement reviews. Establish quality assurance programs; leads Quality Council meeting, infection control, radiation safety and patient safety. Participates in activities.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and industry best practice guidelines.

Management of Physician Practice

  • Schedule all meetings for the practice including Management Committee, Weekly Group Teleconference, Partner Meetings, Grand Rounds and Ad Hoc.
  • Participate as active member of the Management Team.
  • Generate monthly invoices related to pertinent partner agreements, financial data collection and analysis as requested by the Management Committee.
  • Work with managers at partner organizations in a manner that increases cohesive operations and mutual respect.
  • Primary responsibility to provide RCM guidance and oversite to billing companies, Astera and One Oncology RCM staff.
  • Actively participate in Astera Leadership meetings and One Oncology radiation committee meetings.
  • Collate and present center clinical and financial statistics to the management team. 
  • Administer bank accounts as requested for business operations.
  • Manage end-of-year recognition, referring physicians, staff and other recognition per management committee approval.
  • Work with physicians and clinic leaders to assure clinic coverages meet or exceed professional service agreement requirements. Schedule physician vacations and coverage in QGenda according to annual goals.
  • Assist with special projects as directed by the managing partner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Radiation Oncology Clinical experience required.
  • Managerial experience in a healthcare facility required.
  • BA Business Administration required.
  • MA Public Health or MBA preferred.
  • RN or RTT license preferred.
