What you’ll be doing

As the Director, Project Management, you‘ll be joining CIBC’s Global Wires & Payments Technology to manage delivery of a portfolio of Wires projects. You’ll be responsible for managing a team of Project Managers & Business System Analysts. The Director, Project Management exercises a high degree of independent judgement to develop and implement processes for projects, ensuring consistency with organizational objectives and quality standards and drives innovation across all areas of responsibility, applying expert interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

How you’ll succeed

  • Strategic development & execution - Manage the day to day project or Program activities of highly complicated project(s), in an inter-related strategic program following Technology’s project performance standards. Perform high tactical business planning and return on investment outcomes. Initiate, plan, execute, control and close out the program or project with an emphasis on project inter-dependency management. Establish department policies and procedures. Must ensure that all necessary risk assessments and risk assessment processes are carried out at the appropriate time. Must ensure projects for which they are responsible meet the requirements of CIBC’s standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Relationship management - Maintain relationships with business management to identify technology needs and align application services to support those needs. Establish and maintain stakeholder, client and senior management relationships. Mentor sponsors and senior management and Build and maintain cross-functional partnerships and networks to contribute and drive strong delivery execution around key business initiatives. Maintain strong partnerships with other business functions/units (i.e. Security, Technology, Architecture, Risk Management, Procurement, Finance, Vendors etc.

  • As a people leader set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals. Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training. Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities. Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision and values. Hire the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in: end to end project delivery and project management as an IT Project Director, or in a similar role (8-10 years). You deliver results in a matrix environment where they may not have direct influence on project resources. You must have previous experience establishing and maintaining stakeholder and sponsor relationships and you have experience in integration projects and keen interest in architecture and high level design. Responsible for leading a team of business project managers to deliver complex, cross-departmental initiatives. This individual establishes overall goals and objectives for the team, prioritizes initiatives, and allocates resources in alignment with broader business strategies. Leveraging advanced leadership and technical acumen, the role develops comprehensive business cases—defining project goals, terms of reference, resource requirements, and conducting thorough cost-benefit analyses.
