Mercer
Description:
Director, Product – Fiber Platform
The Director, Product – Fiber Platform owns the vision, strategy, and evolution of the Fiber platform—Mercer US H&B’s unified platform that consolidates and modernizes core capabilities across the portfolio.
This role is accountable for defining the platform’s long-term direction, shaping the capability portfolio, and leading cross-functional execution to deliver a scalable, reusable foundation that improves consultant and client workflows, accelerates time-to-market, and enables future innovation (including embedded AI capabilities).
Serving as the platform’s senior product leader, this position partners closely with UX, engineering, data/analytics, and senior business stakeholders to ensure Fiber becomes the single platform narrative and operating model across US H&B.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Vision & Strategy
- Define, maintain, and communicate the long-term Fiber platform vision, value proposition, and strategic priorities for both consultant and client experiences.
- Establish Fiber as the cohesive platform narrative internally (US H&B and broader Marsh leadership) and externally where applicable.
- Determine which existing capabilities are retained, evolved, consolidated, or deprecated as the portfolio transitions to Fiber.
- Partner with UX/UI leadership to shape the end-to-end experience strategy, including front-end design direction and feature/phase prioritization.
- Identify where and when to embed AI capabilities into platform workflows and services to improve outcomes and usability.
Capability Portfolio & Platform Roadmap
- Own the Fiber capability model and platform taxonomy (core capabilities, shared services, experience layers, and integrations).
- Lead platform roadmap development, including sequencing, dependency management, and value-based prioritization across legacy and net-new capabilities.
- Establish and run product governance for platform trade-offs, ensuring decisions balance client value, scale leverage, cost, risk, and delivery feasibility.
- Align roadmap and investment decisions with US H&B business strategy, leadership priorities, and measurable outcomes.
- Partner with Product Execution and delivery leads to define release strategy, milestones, and capability rollout plans.
Technical Understanding & Guidance
- Make informed product decisions using input from technical experts (engineering, architecture, data, security, and enterprise platform teams).
- Drive platform reuse and standardization by evaluating duplication vs. differentiation at the request level and steering teams toward shared capabilities.
- Lead data and integration strategy improvements in partnership with enterprise data teams to create a consolidated, governed data ecosystem.
- Ensure platform decisions support scalability, reliability, security, and compliance expectations for enterprise-grade products.
Stakeholder Leadership
- Serve as the primary interface to US H&B business leadership, consulting leaders, and key stakeholders for Fiber platform priorities, progress, and outcomes.
- Own stakeholder communication, including executive updates, decision briefs, roadmap reviews, and escalation management.
- Define and track success metrics (e.g., adoption, workflow outcomes, reuse, time-to-market, revenue enablement, cost-to-serve reduction).
- Build alignment across product lines to ensure Fiber becomes the shared foundation rather than a collection of loosely related tools.
Partnership with Product Owners / Delivery Teams
- Provide clear strategic intent and outcome-based goals to Product Owners and cross-functional delivery teams.
- Act as the escalation point for scope, sequencing, and priority conflicts; facilitate fast decisions with transparent trade-offs.
Additional Skills & Experiences
- Portfolio Consolidation & Modernization: Experience consolidating tools, migrating from legacy platforms, and simplifying capability sets while improving user value.
- Data & Integration Fluency: Strong understanding of how platform value is amplified through shared data models, APIs/integrations, instrumentation, and governance.
- Product Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead product/platform strategy, capability design, and reuse across multiple products and teams.
- Governance & Operating Models: Ability to design lightweight but effective decision forums, intake/prioritization models, and standards that scale.
- Executive Communication: Skilled at distilling complex product/technical trade-offs into crisp, decision-ready narratives for senior leaders.
- Influence in a Matrix: Proven success influencing across product, engineering, UX, data, security, legal, and compliance without direct authority.
- Outcome Orientation: Strong focus on measurable business and user outcomes, not just delivery outputs.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive experience in product management, including leadership roles on enterprise platforms, multi-capability products, or shared services.
- Proven track record of building and executing product strategies, including roadmap ownership, prioritization, and cross-portfolio alignment.
- Strong technical acumen and ability to partner deeply with engineering, data, and architecture teams to guide decisions and manage trade-offs.
- Experience delivering products in complex, regulated environments with security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
- Preferred experience in healthcare, benefits, insurance, or enterprise B2B/B2B2C digital platforms.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience presenting to and driving decisions with senior leadership.
