Why this role is important?

In this role you will play an integral role as an experienced healthcare leader in pharmacy incident management focusing on continual enhancement of pharmacy practice. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Enterprise Pharmacy Operations & Clinical Excellence you will oversee the enterprise patient safety program and incident management program. This role will continue to foster existing collaboration with various cross-functional teams and will be accountable to lead the management of pharmacy incidents in retail and long-term care settings and support the continuous improvement programs for pharmacists.

 

Leveraging incident data and analytics, you will also evaluate trends and improvement opportunities, while providing immediate day-to-day support to pharmacies and pharmacy teams. You and your team will be responsible for pharmacy compliance initiatives for the continuous quality improvement program and will work with experts across the business to support immediate risks to the business. This role is fundamental in risk mitigation, continually identifying opportunities to improve pharmacy process, systems, workflow, and training to drive operational excellence and best practices. 

 

What You Will Do: 

  •   Lead and direct a high-performance team overseeing a best-in-class pharmacy incident management program & pharmacy safety compliance across 1800+ pharmacy locations in Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaw, MediSystem, Specialty Health Network, Central Pharmacy Services, along with pharmacist-led clinics, and support privacy incident management for several healthcare businesses 

  • Be the key lead in high pharmacy incident escalations and initiate the incident response program until complete resolution 

  • Perform root cause analysis and support in review of store level action plans, along with the development of corporate action plans  

  • Effectively assess incident risk escalation and support with assessment of when the crisis core program is to be enacted 

  • Support with best practice sharing for incident prevention in areas of operations, technology  training opportunities  

  • ·Work with the Privacy office to support privacy incident management across all retail pharmacies and healthcare businesses to ensure compliance with privacy laws and legislation   

  • Champion a culture of patient safety, reinforcing the importance of incident and near-miss reporting on a national level 

  • Influence pharmacy teams as well as enterprise peers and stakeholders leveraging data, clinical safety expertise and experience to quickly address contributing factors to incidents. 

  • Develop and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies to help prevent medication incidents, privacy incidents and other types of pharmacy incidents across pharmacies within the network 

  • ·Develop and support enterprise pharmacy compliance initiatives and monitor compliance trends across the store network 

  • ·Oversee and perform analysis with large amounts of data to identify trends and causal factors 

  • ·Interpret analysis and present to a variety of stakeholders in simple and easy to understand formats 

  • Prepare and effectively communicate to the executive team quarterly incident trends and corporate action plans 

  • Identify opportunities for pharmacy continuous improvement and supports stakeholders at store, banner and enterprise level to implement. 

  • Develop the annual compliance program training and monitor operational effectiveness 

  • Oversee the continuous quality improvement budget for projects, initiatives and programs

What You Will Need: 

 

  • ·        5+ years as a Pharmacist

  • ·        Licensure as a Pharmacist in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) or other Canadian College bodies 

  • ·        Experience managing pharmacy incidents or other relevant work experience in risk management   

  •

  • ·        Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders empathetically, confidentially and professionally, including customers, using language accessible to the audience

  • ·        Experience in leading a team with direct reporting relationships through the lens of Blue Culture 

  • ·        An advanced level of initiative, analytical skills and demonstrated good judgement  

  • ·        Have a good professional presence and possess strong planning and organizational skills 

  • ·        Demonstrated ability to use advanced tools within excel or statistical software programs

  • ·        Flexible and adaptable to changes of responsibility reflective of the business needs

  • ·        Involvement in external professional committees and/or working groups (i.e. regulatory body, association, patient safety working groups) is an asset. 

 

 

This role requires availability during the business hours of operations, with occasional night or weekend on-call support.
