The role:

As the Director of Engineering at Truecaller, you will be a pivotal leader, driving technical excellence and ensuring the successful delivery of our products and services within your designated region. This role demands a unique blend of technical prowess, strategic vision, and leadership acumen. You will be responsible for shaping the technical landscape of Truecaller's operations, influencing product development, engineering practices, and overall technological innovation.

What you’ll do: 

• Technical Leadership:
• You will be the primary technical authority for the region, setting the technical direction and providing guidance to engineering teams.
• Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging engineers to explore new ideas and technologies to enhance Truecaller's offerings and maintain our competitive advantage.
• Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements, actively identifying and evaluating emerging trends that could impact our business.
• Collaborate closely with product management, design, and other cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between technical solutions and business objectives.
• Engineering Management:
• You will oversee the entire engineering lifecycle within your region, from project inception and resource allocation to development, testing, and deployment.
• Establish and maintain high standards for software development, ensuring code quality, maintainability, and scalability.
• Cultivate a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture, empowering teams to deliver their best work while promoting continuous learning and development.
• Implement effective performance management practices, providing regular feedback, coaching, and mentorship to engineers.
• Actively manage and develop engineering talent, identifying high-potential individuals, providing growth opportunities, and building a strong succession pipeline.
• Governance and Compliance:
• You will be a champion for compliance, ensuring adherence to all relevant technical standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
• Implement robust processes for risk management, data security, and privacy protection to safeguard Truecaller's sensitive information and user data.
• Work closely with legal, security, and other relevant stakeholders to proactively address compliance or governance concerns, ensuring Truecaller operates ethically and responsibly.

What you bring in: 

• A seasoned engineering leader with a proven track record of technical excellence and successful team management.
• Deep understanding of software development principles, architectures, and best practices across various technology stacks.
• Strong experience in leading and managing large-scale engineering projects, demonstrating the ability to deliver complex solutions on time and within budget.
• Demonstrated expertise in governance, risk management, and compliance within a technology context.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with organizational stakeholders.
• Ability to inspire and motivate teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Strategic thinker with strong business acumen, capable of aligning technical initiatives with broader company goals.
• Adaptable and resilient, able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and navigate complex challenges.

It would be great if you also have:

• Experience managing infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform(GCP).
• Experience deploying and scaling Apache Cassandra, ScyllaDB, MySQL, Postgresql, Redis or Memcached.
• Experience developing Kubernetes operators.
• Go programming language experience or willingness to learn coding in Go(it'll help us build new k8s operators and improve the existing ones).
