About the role

As the Director of Engineering, you will oversee a team of Engineering and Maintenance specialists responsible for all engineering operations to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees. You will also have responsibility in all aspects of resort facility and building maintenance including electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, HVAC refrigeration, interior, paint and decorating, and respond to inquiries and problems in an efficient, courteous and professional manner to achieve maximum customer satisfaction while complying with all Four Seasons’ policies.

What you will do

• Oversee the engineering department, including maintenance, repairs, and renovations.
• Lead and mentor engineering staff, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
• Prepare and manage the engineering budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
• Monitor expenditures and implement strategies to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
• Plan and execute capital improvement projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors for external projects.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding safety and environmental standards.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and training for engineering staff.
• Work closely with other departments (e.g., housekeeping, front office) to ensure seamless operations.
• Collaborate with senior management to align engineering goals with overall resort objectives.
• Implement energy-saving initiatives and sustainability programs to enhance environmental responsibility.
• Work closely with Onsite Manager to coordinate and manage the day to day maintenance and upkeep of the Resort as it pertains to engineering and grounds
• To continually support and improve engineering services that effectively address problems affecting both guests and employees
• To analyse problems and to formulate plans to get work done quickly including procurement of materials, parts, etc and necessary scheduling arrangements with a high degree of quality
• Able to speak effectively with guests and employees
• Manage repair and maintenance project and building improvements by effectively coordinate and planning all tasks in advance of beginning any project
• Utilize all possible resources. Coordinate efforts with engineering and other affected departments
• Use project management techniques along with the appropriately assigned engineering team members to perform project planning and execution
• All methods, materials and practices must meet and be in accordance with local regulations, corporate specifications and standard practices
• Keep accurate completion and task records in the project files
• Oversees the management of operating equipment of the guestrooms and public areas
• Develop, maintain and implement effective preventive maintenance systems within the property
• Plan, develop, control and implement an effective work-order system that generates speedy repairs and replacements
• Perform all duties and responsibilities to the standard set by the department and company

What you bring

• Minimum of 10 years as engineering professional in hospitality, service or luxury industry
• A university degree or equivalent experience
• Project management experience
• Pre-opening and renovation experience in hotels/resorts in Asia preferable.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to identify pattern in data to make recommendations in an environment with competing demands
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin Chinese
• Proactive, hands on and able to operate autonomously
