The Director role within the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Tax team is a pivotal leadership position in a team at the early stages of its growth trajectory. The Director will play a critical role in delivering exceptional client service, leading complex transactions, and shaping a differentiated service offering. This role combines technical excellence, strategic delivery, and team leadership, with a strong focus on building client relationships and driving business growth.
Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results
People:
- Coach and develop team members, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and high performance
- Lead training initiatives and support the professional development of staff
- Collaborate with peers and contribute to building a strong, scalable team
Client:
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, legal advisers, and internal teams to ensure effective delivery
- Lead complex transactions in collaboration with Principals, providing strategic and technical guidance
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring consistent, high-quality service
- Support business development efforts, including proposal preparation and participation in pitches
Value:
- Prepare and oversee detailed technical advice across UK and international tax issues
- Perform and review in-depth analysis of tax-related documents and data, articulating commercial impacts
- Collaborate with UK and overseas tax specialists, critically evaluating and integrating their input
- Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of UK and OECD tax developments
- Review and prepare detailed funds flows and assess financial models from a tax perspective
- Oversee implementation of client 100-day plans and other pre- and post-deal tax deliverables
- Manage engagement economics including fees, WIP, billing, and collections
Education and Experience:
- Qualified CTA, ACA, CA or equivalent
- Extensive experience in UK corporate tax and transaction tax
- Proven track record of delivering complex tax advice and supporting clients through transactions
- Experience building and leading high-performing teams
