Moderna

Director, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Combo

Cambridge, Massachusetts Full time

The Role:

Reporting to the Executive Director, HEOR and located in Cambridge, MA, the candidate in this role will be responsible for supporting global HEOR activities across Moderna’s vaccine portfolio, with a primary focus on combination vaccines.

This role will lead the development and execution of strategies for evidence generation, data analysis and dissemination, and engagement with thought leaders for Moderna’s combination vaccine portfolio, with particular emphasis on the launch and lifecycle value strategy for the COVID + Flu combination vaccine. As Moderna’s first combination vaccine in adults, this asset represents an important company milestone and a priority product for the organization. You will have the unique opportunity to help shape our development strategy, as opposed to working with inflexible development paths. You will synthesize work across our scientific, clinical, and commercial groups into a coherent plan to develop vaccines that have a positive population impact across the broad healthcare system, as well as establish and communicate the value of the vaccines that Moderna develops to protect populations.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and management of HEOR studies from concept through publication and launch support. HEOR studies may include retrospective database analyses, economic models, prospective research studies, patient-reported outcomes, and payer-focused tools.

  • Lead the design of health economic models and value tools that can be used to explain the value of Moderna’s combination vaccines to a broad range of stakeholders, including the COVID + Flu combination vaccine.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional product teams at every stage of development through launch and post-launch evidence generation. Partner with the broader vaccines commercial team in presentations to senior internal stakeholders, including our executive committee, and external stakeholders.

  • Work closely with other functions including research and development strategy, epidemiology, regulatory, policy, market access, and medical affairs on programs that support recommendation, reimbursement, broad access, and value.

  • Deliver best-practice project management oversight for all research and study-related activities.

  • Understand the payer and policy landscape for adult vaccines and combination vaccines, and develop networks to engage with thought leaders who can provide input to guide Moderna programs.

  • Represent Moderna at internal and external meetings where HEOR strategy, evidence, and data for combination vaccines are required.

  • Be a key player in building HEOR capabilities within Moderna’s vaccines organization, in partnership with newly formed teams that will blaze trails in new markets, support the successful launch of Moderna’s COVID + Flu combination vaccine, and help grow Moderna at an accelerated pace.

  • Comply with corporate policies and procedures as well as all applicable healthcare laws and regulations.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Services Research, Economics, Epidemiology, Health Policy, or a related discipline. Doctorate preferred.

  • 5+ years of progressive excellence in HEOR, with a successful track record of building and executing high-value research agendas.

  • Experience with vaccines and infectious diseases strongly preferred; experience supporting adult vaccine launches and/or combination products is highly desirable.

  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders from a range of key areas, including medical affairs, field teams, marketing, communications, physician, trade and consumer channels, pricing and contracting, and government payers.

  • Extensive experience with outcomes-based strategies and tactics to meet scientific and commercial objectives, and in conducting research studies that apply health economics, patient-reported outcomes, retrospective and prospective data analyses, epidemiology, and health services research.

  • Best-in-class examples of leadership in HEOR that have created incremental value across the ecosystem to support market-leading access, defend value from pricing pressures, and provide clear differentiation in the face of competition.

  • Passion and ambition to excel in a critical role where developing strategies that explain and defend the value of Moderna’s first combination vaccine in adults will be essential.

  • Keen understanding of the drug development and regulatory approval process, and of health policy and healthcare system stakeholders (e.g., managed care, public sector payers, emerging models of care) relevant to vaccines, especially adult immunization and combination vaccines.

  • Demonstrated past experience using real-world evidence and comparative effectiveness research for health policy decision-making, and a high degree of digital fluency, are preferred.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and influencing skills across internal and external stakeholders.
