Job Summary

The Director Generation Business & Financial Management is responsible for establishing and leading the financial planning, analysis, and cost management framework that supports all I&M Generation Operations. This role provides strategic financial leadership across capital and O&M planning, cost structure development, forecasting, variance analysis, regulatory filings, and long term resource planning.

This leader will partner closely with plant leadership, Operations, Regulatory, Finance, and other functional areas to ensure financial integrity and transparency across all generation assets. As I&M continues to expand its generation portfolio, this role will be instrumental in ensuring the business has financial discipline, tools, and processes needed to support growth

Job Description

What you’ll do:
Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Cost Structure Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive cost‑tracking structure for all I&M generation facilities.
  • Partner with plant leadership to ensure consistent tracking and reporting of capital and O&M expenditures.
  • Drive continuous improvement in cost transparency, allocation methodologies, and financial controls across generation operations.

Forecasting, Budgeting & Variance Reporting

  • Lead the development and coordination of monthly capital and O&M variance reports for all generation sites.
  • Oversee the annual budgeting process for Generation Operations, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual forecast updates, including analysis of key drivers and recommending corrective actions.

Regulatory Support

  • Provide financial analysis, documentation, and subject‑matter expertise in support of regulatory filings, testimonies, and base rate cases related to generation assets.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory cost requirements and support responses to discovery requests.

Strategic Planning & Growth Support

  • Support long‑term resource planning and major project financial models, including new generation development, repowering, or environmental compliance projects.
  • Provide financial insight to support decision‑making on future generation asset investments.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Support onboarding, coaching, and development of the plant business and administrative positions for I&M Generation facilities.
  • Serve as the internal expert on AEP financial systems, budgeting tools, and cost‑management processes.
  • Build strong relationships with plant managers, engineering, operations, and enterprise finance teams to drive alignment and effective financial operations.

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Requirements:
Education requirements are listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, engineering, or related field.

Work requirement listed below:

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in utility, generation, or operational financial management.

Preferred experience/qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in budget management, forecasting, cost‑tracking, and financial modeling.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies or supporting regulatory filings.
  • Ability to influence across organizational levels and collaborate with operational teams
  • Master’s degree in business or finance.
  • Experience with AEP financial systems (PowerPlant, UI Planner, Hyperion, Maximo, etc.).
  • Prior experience supporting or leading financial operations for generation facilities.
  • Previous leadership experience in a matrixed environment

Compensation Range:

$160,434.00 - $208,565.50
