As Director of Facility Management, Engineering and EHS, you will lead a critical part of this mission—overseeing all site-level functions including Facility Management, CAPEX management, Engineering and Environmental aspects, health and Safety. This role is key to delivering reliable, high-quality, and compliant services to our internal and external clients around the world.

What will you do?

You will collaborate with leaders across Client Services, Operations, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Facilities, EHS, Planning, PPI, IT, and HR, as well as the Site General Manager, to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans. Together, we will ensure operational performance aligns with both internal business goals and evolving customer expectations.

Drive team performance by completing sales and operational plans, representing building operations, technical services, and environmental health and safety, and emphasizing the impact of contributions on business and customer happiness.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Site Management

  • Lead Facility Management, Engineering and EHS functions in alignment with site and business targets.
  • Serve as a key member of the Site Leadership Team, actively shaping site strategy and long-term planning.
  • Support the General Manager in strategic decision-making, including facilities investments, CAPEX planning, and site readiness for future expansion.

People Leadership & Interpersonal Development

  • Attract, mentor, develop, and retain a successful, customer-centric team.
  • Develop a collaborative culture focused on partnership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership to managers in Facility Operations, Engineering, EHS , Maintenance, Utilities, and related functions (based on reporting JDs).
  • Drive succession planning and talent development across the organization.

Operational Excellence

  • Be responsible for the delivery of reliable facility operations, technical services, utilities, maintenance programs, workplace safety, and site infrastructure.
  • Ensure the effective project management and execution of engineering initiatives, facility upgrades, equipment life-cycle planning, and capital projects.
  • Guarantee business continuity by anticipating challenges and implementing proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure engineering documentation, asset management, and compliance practices meet internal standards and audit requirements.

Performance & Compliance

  • Establish, review, and supervise Key Performance Indicators related to safety, quality, cost, uptime, energy consumption, and project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, GxP, ISO, and all relevant regulatory requirements within the facility and engineering scope.
  • Maintain efficient resource levels to support operational continuity and growth initiatives.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Lead and control departmental budget, spending, and resource allocation.
  • Optimize operational efficiency through careful planning, continuous improvement programs, and efficient practices.
  • Oversee vendor management, contract negotiations, and service provider performance.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate across Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Services and Business Excellence to support site-wide initiatives.
  • Drive process improvement, organizational change, and innovation projects consistent with company goals.
  • Support energy management, sustainability initiatives, and infrastructure optimization.

How will you get here?

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent certification in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or related subject area.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in Facilities, Engineering, Automation, or Technical Services within the Life Science or Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong understanding of GMP and compliant engineering environments.
  • Proven experience leading large teams and diverse technical functions, ideally across multiple geographies.
  • Shown success in process improvement, operational excellence, and change management.
  • Strong commercial competence, financial literacy, and experience leading significant budgets.
  • Experience working effectively in complex matrix organizations.
  • Passion for developing people and building successful teams.
  • Proficiency in English and German; additional languages are an asset.
