ROLE SUMMARY

The Director, Executive Communications is responsible for operationalizing Pfizer’s external enterprise narrative and executive communications strategy under the direction of the Senior Director, Executive and Corporate Communications (and the Vice President of Corporate Communications).

This role leads the execution, coordination, and continuous improvement of executive communications programs, platforms, and tools that strengthen Pfizer’s reputation and support business priorities.

The Director serves as the operational leader of the Executive Communications Center of Excellence (COE), ensuring that Pfizer’s senior leaders are consistently positioned to show up effectively across external forums, channels, and audiences with the right messaging, content, and support.

The role works closely with Global Media Relations, Social and Digital Communications, international and policy communications teams, and business partners to deploy leaders strategically and ensure enterprise alignment.

This position requires strong executional rigor, editorial judgment, stakeholder management, and the ability to manage complex, high-visibility workflows in a dynamic environment.

The role is also a key member of the Corporate Communications team, working closely with Global Media Relations, Social and Digital Communications, and other cross-functional teams to shape how the world understands Pfizer’s science, business, and purpose.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Communications Center of Excellence (COE)

  • Provide senior communications counsel and strategic guidance to members of the Executive Leadership Team, OCEO, and key business and regional leaders to ensure leaders are positioned to show up effectively across external engagements.

  • Counsel and train leaders to develop the necessary speaking and delivery skills to match communications format and forum requirements.

  • Partner with Global Media Relations (GMR) and others to deploy leaders across the right forums, channels, and audiences for maximum impact.

  • Continually develop relationships with earned speaking event/forum organizers and producers; that knowledge will be used to provide insights on successful engagement strategies, including those of ELT and high-visibility leaders.

  • Develop, maintain, and evolve tools and resources — including content libraries, briefing materials, playbooks, and AI agents — that equip leaders with consistent, high-quality messaging and assets.

  • Track and report program metrics, and provide senior counsel to Corporate Communications leadership on the value, impact, and progress of executive communications efforts.

Enterprise Messaging & Narrative Deployment

  • Translate Pfizer’s enterprise narrative, thematic pillars, and messaging architecture into executable content, guidance, and tools.

  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and effective deployment of messaging across executive communications, external platforms, and leader engagements.

  • Maintain and govern content standards to ensure clarity, credibility, and quality.

Executive Communications Delivery

  • Lead day-to-day planning, drafting, editing, and production of executive communications including speeches, remarks, talking points, op-eds, Q&A, and thought leadership content that focus on high-priority messaging and voices.

  • Evaluate incoming speaking requests for Pfizer executives to determine alignment with company narrative priorities, but also proactively secure media speaking engagements that present impactful opportunities for Pfizer to deliver key messages.

  • Work closely with international and policy, internal, investor, and business communications teams to support varying priorities while maintaining enterprise narrative alignment.

  • Manage executive content pipelines, calendars, approvals, and workflows to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.

  • Prepare leaders for high-impact external engagements, including conferences, media moments, forums, and policy or industry events.

Platform & Channel Execution

  • Manage execution across executive and corporate platforms including social media, corporate content hubs, and other external channels.

  • Partner with Social and Digital Communications team, Chiefs of Staff/other designees to implement executive social strategies and content deployment.

  • Work closely with the Pfizer Studio to ensure alignment with messaging and brand priorities and to deliver excellence in content.

  • Coordinate with Media Relations on interviews, briefings, and proactive placements.

Measurement, Optimization & Reporting

  • Track and analyze KPIs across executive platforms, engagements, and COE tools.

  • Use insights to optimize content, channel mix, and leader deployment strategies.

  • Support reporting to senior leadership on effectiveness, risks, and opportunities.

Stakeholder & Team Collaboration

  • Serve as a key point of integration across communications teams, business units, and regional partners.

  • Mentor and support junior team members and contribute to team development.

  • Represent the function professionally and effectively in cross-functional forums.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements:

  • Minimum required: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, English, social sciences, business/economics, healthcare/pre-med, or related fields

Capability requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in executive, corporate, or enterprise communications, preferably in complex, global, regulated, or science-driven environments.

  • Strong experience supporting senior leaders in high-visibility roles.

  • Proven ability to translate narratives into executable communications programs and tools at scale, with a strong understanding of how communications advances business strategy.

  • Excellent strategic thinking, writing, editing, storytelling skills, and editorial judgement with a proven ability to convey complex ideas across formats and channels.

  • Strong understanding of media, digital, social, internal, and executive communications and how they work together; current on best practices and trends.

  • Proven track record of developing and delivering innovative, high-impact communications programs on time and on budget.

  • Demonstrated fluency in biopharmaceutical science and healthcare, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear external communications.

  • Strong stakeholder management, influence, and collaboration skills.

  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and sound judgment under pressure.

  • Demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and sound judgment in dynamic and ambiguous environments, with the interpersonal presence and credibility to build trust quickly and influence effectively at senior levels.

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $162,900.00 to $261,000.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
