Job Summary
This role leads the design communications function for a large, complex business, defining and driving how design is expressed through clear narratives, compelling storytelling, and high-quality assets. The role shapes and delivers design narratives that communicate product intent, user value, and innovation, while directing design PR and external engagement to elevate the organization’s design leadership. It ensures design communications, assets, and storytelling systems are consistent, scalable, and aligned with the company’s brand and design vision, and partners with executive leadership to influence strategy through design-driven insight.
Responsibilities
• Directs the design communications function, establishing a clear vision for design narratives, storytelling, and asset development across the organization.
• Defines and drives cohesive design narratives that articulate product intent, user experience, and differentiation across key moments (launches, reviews, executive storytelling, PR).
• Leads design PR and external storytelling, partnering with communications teams to position the organization as a leader in design and innovation with media, analysts, and industry influencers.
• Oversees creation and governance of design assets (visuals, films, renderings, prototypes, presentations, storytelling frameworks), ensuring quality, consistency, and accessibility.
• Builds scalable systems for design asset management and distribution, enabling teams to effectively reuse and deploy design content globally.
• Partners cross-functionally (Design, Marketing, Product, PR) to integrate design storytelling into go-to-market and brand experiences.
• Ensures all design communications and outputs align with the organization’s brand identity, design language, and messaging frameworks.
• Evolves strategies for design storytelling and communications to maximize clarity, reach, and business impact.
• Manages critical internal and external relationships that amplify design visibility and influence.
• Consults with executive leadership to shape strategic narratives, influence decision-making, and position design as a driver of business value.
• Leads and develops teams focused on design communications, narrative development, and asset creation.
Education & Experience Recommended
• Four-year or Graduate Degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
• Typically has 12+ years of job-related and/or management experience, preferably in content creation, social media management, product launch, PR, or a related field.
