Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, hereinafter, Director, is responsible for developing strategies and successfully securing gifts from corporations and foundations for the University. Over the past five years the CFR fundraising program has grown from raising $3.3M annually to more than $4M annually. Our goal is to continue that growth to upwards of $5M annually and the Director is responsible for leading this effort and in many cases serving as the point person for the majority of these gift agreements.

Accordingly, the Director will design and execute a corporate and foundation relations plan that is both strategic and reflects the best practices of the profession. He/She will provide oversight of the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all corporate and foundation prospects. This includes developing strategies that match University needs with corporate and foundation interests, establishing and maintaining donor relationships, managing and submitting letters of inquiry and preparing proposals and stewardship reports.

The Director will manage a personal portfolio of corporate and foundation donors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)
Fundraising (75%)

  • Oversee a Corporation and Foundation Relations program that raises between $4M and $5M annually.

  • Raise $1-3 million in new commitments each year from their direct portfolio.

  • Manage a portfolio of 75-100 corporate and foundation prospects.

  • Identify and research new and existing C&F prospects.

  • Actively cultivate and solicit new and existing C&F prospects.

  • Prepare and write proposals for submission –a minimum of 30 C&F proposals per year. Also, a minimum of 10 C&F reports per year.

  • Work with academic leadership and faculty to identify potential projects for funding.

  • Visit with corporate and foundation donors and prospects to communicate the University’s needs, make the case for support, and improve relationships for SJU.

  • Steward existing corporate and foundation relationships and ongoing gift support– including preparing detailed reports when necessary.

  • Develop and oversee C&F strategies and priority prospects with planned implementation and timeline.

  • Manage and review all corporate and foundation proposal submissions from the University.


Program Management (25%)

  • Work closely with the VP and AVPs for Advancement and engage collaboratively with leaders across the University to identify and pursue opportunities and strategies with corporations and foundations.

  • Oversee, manage, and support University leadership/faculty in their corporate and foundation proposals. Ensure the proper submission, formats and deadlines are met. Alert University leadership to opportunities and develop and champion those opportunities.

  • Develop long term strategy for C&F Program tied to the Campaign strategy where appropriate.

  • Serve as a resource in educating and training development officers in matters related to corporate and foundation fundraising.

  • Develop annual business plans for program growth.

  • Manage tracking and reporting system for pipeline and open proposals.


Performance evaluation will be based on achieving annually stated goals, as well as other duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education/Training and Experience)
Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required, along with at least 3 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience in corporate and foundation

  • Demonstrated track record of strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in the use of computer for communications (letters, brochures, emails), data management (Excel and Access), basic graphic design (Microsoft Word and/ or Microsoft Publisher), data reporting, and budget review and analysis.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Some evenings, week-ends, and travel in the US

Estimated Pay Range:

The estimated pay range for this position is $120,000-$130,000 annually. Offered salary will be commensurate with work experience and educational background.
