What you'll be doing

As the Director, Cloud Technology Delivery, you‘ll be joining CIBC’s Cloud Engineering and Transformation Technology team to manage delivery of a large complex portfolio of Cloud IT projects enterprise wide. Reporting to the Senior Director, Cloud Program Delivery and working in a matrix environment, you will work with peers in the various streams to support the successful delivery of all projects in the portfolio. This is a hands-on IT delivery management role. You’ll be responsible for managing a team of 10 to 12 IT Project Managers and IT Project Coordinators.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Delivery and Execution: Provide oversight, direction and guidance to the Project Management team in the delivery of initiatives on time and on budget. Ensure integrated delivery schedules are in place with all dependencies identified and tracked. Exercise direct accountability for the portfolio. Monitor overall portfolio health by actively managing portfolio risks, issues and go to green plans. Support PMs through project issues resolution and escalations. Chair weekly portfolio review meetings. Work with Application Development teams, PMs, Architects, Information Security, Cloud and Network Engineers on structuring and simplifying the delivery of the complex programs to develop delivery roadmaps. Support Application Enablement and Platform Engineering Agile PODs to ensure timely delivery, communication and resource cost recovery. Ensure strong financial discipline within Cloud PMO team. Responsible for all regulatory, security and CIBC Technology delivery requirements are met on all projects. Ensure all required project artifacts are completed and archived for Audit purposes and as required in accordance with Enterprise Delivery Framework. Drive continuous improvement of project management and Cloud delivery processes and practices.
  • Relationship Management: Establish and maintain multiple stakeholder, client, senior and executive management relationships. Participate in Executive Steering Committees and manage Senior Executives’ delivery expectations. Develop and sustain partnerships across multiple cross-functional teams.
  • People Management: Coach, develop and mentor a team of full time employees and contingent resources. Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities, providing fair and accurate feedback, and creating a positive environment by leading by example. Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities. Recruit and hire technical project management professionals as needed.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate 8-10 years of experience in. hands-on IT delivery/project management as an IT Director, or in a similar role. Successful track record of high visibility large IT project and program management for a matrix organization of similar size. You are an experienced, highly seasoned and versatile technologist with a proven track record of successfully leading project teams with technical specialists. Proven experience and in-depth knowledge of project management. Knowledge of and experience with tools and techniques for planning, organizing, monitoring and controlling projects. Solid understanding of project financials. Experience managing demanding stakeholders, senior executive sponsors, multiple priorities, getting results in a matrixed environment where you may not have direct influence on all project resources. Breath of knowledge in IT network, infrastructure, network security, application development and Cloud services. 5+ years of People Management experience of a mid-size team (10 -20 members). Effective communication (both written and oral) so that you can distill complex technical info to stakeholders at senior / executive levels in business and technology. Degree/diploma in Computer Science, Applied Sciences engineering and relevant work experience. Experience in Financial services industry, Technology Infrastructure or Application Development delivery would be a significant differentiator. IT Project Management experience is an asset. PMP designation is an asset.
