Job Description

What is the opportunity?

A key role within RBC Taxation group where you will manage the Canadian income tax compliance of RBC legal entity and certain assigned Canadian subsidiaries, and provide Canadian tax advice and analysis on transactions / operations relevant to RBC legal entity and assigned subsidiaries.  The position contributes to maximizing shareholder value as a key contact for the taxation team by proactively managing tax risk and ensuring fully compliance with Canadian tax laws. 

What will you do?

  • Manage the income tax compliance operations of RBC legal entity and certain assigned Canadian subsidiaries, including the review of and tax provisions as well as income and capital tax filings;
  • Support the management of RBC legal entity’s audits conducted by Canadian tax authorities, including liaising with government authorities, responding to queries reviewing reassessment proposals, recommending appropriate action with respect to issues in dispute, and filing objections and waivers;
  • Apply expert knowledge and experience to fulfill responsibility for reviewing and evaluating complex transactions for tax governance and tax accounting with the objective of minimizing tax operational risk and maximizing return to shareholders;
  • Proactively review and interpret complex tax legislation to ensure tax liabilities are minimized, and develop tax planning strategies for specific projects by identifying and preparing the analyses supporting proposed changes to operations; and
  • Manage and coach direct report to enable staff to learn new skills and lever strengths.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • CPA Designation
  • 10+ years previous experience in public accounting firm and/or large corporation. Experience related to the financial services industry is preferrable, but not mandatory
  • Completion of CICA In Depth Tax Course
  • Advanced knowledge of tax accounting
  • Sound business knowledge with ability to network within a large organization
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot, etc)
  • Proven experience leading and managing complex projects and meeting tight concurrent deadlines
  • Experience working in a challenging, progressive and fast paced environment
