As a Digital Accessibility Specialist, you will work with product managers, developers, subject matter experts, the global UX team, and our centralized design system team to ensure our applications meet the highest standards for digital accessibility. You’ll play a key role in product development; conducting audits, driving improvements, and championing compliance with WCAG and VPAT requirements. You will serve as a subject matter expert on digital accessibility.
Lead and execute regular audits: Conduct comprehensive WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility audits—manual and automated—across our application suite and the components in our design system. Use tools such as axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, and screen readers to identify accessibility barriers and compliance risks.
Document VPAT status: Prepare, update, and maintain Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) documentation, clearly reporting product accessibility for procurement and compliance purposes.
Collaborate across teams: Work with design, engineering, QA, and stakeholders to prioritize and address accessibility improvements, integrating requirements into every stage of the product lifecycle.
Report and communicate findings: Produce actionable audit reports, highlighting critical WCAG issues, prioritizing remediation, and tracking progress for internal and external stakeholders.
Advise and educate: Share accessibility best practices, conduct workshops, run presentations, and provide hands-on support to product teams. Advocate for inclusive design solutions that consider assistive technology users and diverse accessibility needs. Advocate for inclusivity in design, language and approach across products.
Monitor standards and compliance: Stay updated with evolving global accessibility guidelines (WCAG, EN 301 549, Section 508) and regulatory requirements. Ensure product documentation and accessibility statements are kept current, and keep design partners ready ahead of new requirements.
3 or more years of experience in web and/or mobile app accessibility.
Experience testing with assistive technologies for desktop and mobile.
Proven experience conducting accessibility audits for complex digital products, ideally in public safety, healthcare, or enterprise environments.
Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508 requirements. Familiarity with VPAT templates and accessibility compliance documentation.
Hands-on use of accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies (screen readers, color contrast analyzers, automated scan tools).
Ability to translate audit results into actionable recommendations and clearly communicate to technical and non-technical teams. Ability to create strong, reusable documentation for varied audiences.
Strong communication skills and an intense attention to detail, as well as the ability to express complex ideas and listen to the needs of stakeholders and partners.
Collaborative, proactive approach to working with cross-functional groups.
Experience mentoring and training others in accessible and inclusive design.
Familiarity with digital design software like Figma.
Experience with design systems and their adoption across large product suites.
Experience working with teams in an Agile environment; using an iteration backlog, and comfort being a close collaborator of both engineering and design teams.
Familiarity with international accessibility and disability regulations (ex. AODA, EAA, ACA, etc).
