Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal (Level 3) OR Sr. Principal (Level 4) DevOps Engineer to join our team based in Aurora, Colorado.

About our local organization:  You'll be joining our Aurora Software and Electronics/Payloads Department which has ~200 Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Systems Administrators, Database Administrators, Network Engineers, and Engineering Leaders from entry-level to the most senior chief engineers and architects to Product Owners and Scrum Masters. This engineering organization supports numerous programs across Divisions and Business Units of the Space Sector. About the program:  You’ll be joining an on-contract program’s we call “Starfleet” that is supporting a critical national security mission that is both in development and operations. The program team is based in Aurora, CO yet has distributed team members located at several other Northrop Grumman sites across the US as well as at collaborating partner company sites totaling roughly 35. The overall team is composed primarily of software developers organized into agile scrum teams with Product Owners and Scrum Masters. The operations side has a Site Reliability Engineering team. The program has been growing and needs a specialist in DevOps. Staff in Aurora primarily work in two large rooms with cubicle-like individual spaces (rather than in dedicated offices). The program’s culture is agile, fast-paced, high performing, proactive, collaborative, and welcoming of new ideas, technologies, and tools that could benefit the mission or help the team be more productive or produce a higher quality product.

About the job:  As a DevOps Engineer on Swordfish’s Data Management you’ll join a team that enables rapid development and delivery of software applications across a CI/CD pipeline and into production. As the DevOps Engineer for this program, you will influence, implement, and maintain the technologies and solutions in this area as a team member embedded into the program’s agile business rhythm. The Starfleet team is a software team that delivers data management solutions at commercial speed for our customers as part of a space command and control and battle management system.

Basic Qualifications

  • Level 3/Principal: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of experience

  • Level 4/Sr. Principal: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years experience

  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance at the time of application

  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs

  • Experience with containerization and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)

  • Experience with automated testing and software development pipelines/factories

  • Experience deploying applications in a containerized environment

  • Experience with Software Change Control, Change Management, Code Quality, Static Analysis, and CI/CD tools such as: Atlassian tool suite, Jira, GitHub, GitLab, SonarQube, Coverity, and Jenkins

  • Experience with Unix/Linux Operating System

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highly experienced with Linux scripting and operations

  • Experience with automated software testing and analysis

  • Experience with data management systems and processes

  • Prior polygraph

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
