Development Engineer – Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal

As part of our commitment to advancing the next generation of marine products, we are seeking a Development Engineer to help shape and deliver the engineering solutions that power our iconic boat brands.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and integration of fiberglass, mechanical, electrical, laminate, and structural systems across our product lines. You will use advanced CAE tools to create accurate 3D models, engineer complex mechanisms, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and innovation.
You will play a key part in bringing new products to market and driving continuous improvement across our engineering processes.

Responsibilities

Design & Engineering Execution

  • Lead the creation of detailed 2D drawings and 3D surface models for boat structures and components (liners, decks, small parts).
  • Develop fiberglass structures, mechanical/electrical system routing, and complex mechanisms, ensuring performance, durability, manufacturability, and cost targets are met.
  • Define accurate material and component specifications to support high‑quality sourcing and supplier readiness.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop, refine, and validate components, ensuring continuous improvement in quality and value.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth design integration and support issue resolution across production, service, and field operations.

Quality, Validation & Compliance

  • Ensure designs comply with all cost, performance, safety, and functional requirements.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings; validate designs through testing and system‑level verification.
  • Use warranty and field data to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive initiatives that improve engineering quality, product performance, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Apply systems‑engineering principles and customer insights to enhance design outcomes.
  • Contribute to the integration of new technologies, materials, and engineering methods.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience in marine or industrial product design (preferred).
  • Proficiency in CAD tools; Siemens NX preferred (SolidWorks, Catia, Creo, or Pro‑E also welcomed).
  • Strong 3D surface‑modeling and mechanism‑development skills.
  • Familiarity with FEA and system‑level engineering principles.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Passion for the marine industry.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience or certification is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to mechanical equipment, elevated work areas, fumes, airborne particles, and chemical agents.
  • Moderate noise levels typical of a manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting; occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, or lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, plus ability to adjust focus.
  • Travel required (minimum 25%), with increased frequency during onboarding.
