Design Release Engineer (DRE) - Aggregator Extender

Hybrid

This position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. l This position requires an employee to be onsite monthly.

The Role 

We are looking for a high-performing Design Release Engineer (DRE) who is responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design with GM or supplier’s hardware engineering, GM software engineering, lead/support testing/validation, lead issue analysis/trouble shooting, and management of engineering projects for a key electronic module to support SDV2.0 Aggregator and Extender.

Creativity, initiative, and independent judgment to address complex problems using quantitative and qualitative data to find solutions. Exercises technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a small group with specific engineering objectives. You will also be responsible for leading and developing strategic solutions to achieve business initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to specify and release Aggregator and Extender and ensure those modules meet all requirements

  • Responsible for packaging and mounting of responsible components to multiple vehicle programs

  • Responsible to prepare component hardware and software timing plans that ensure all program requirements and material required dates are met.

  • Chair a cross-functional Product Development Team (PDT) to coordinate the development and integration of products into the vehicle.

  • Ensure all vehicle Program Imperatives (i.e., piece cost, investment, mass, base engineering content & IPTV) involving these components are met.

  • Create/Approve Engineering Change Request (ECRs) to release component and all fastener part numbers

  • Investigation of design alternatives and respond to Change Requests (CRs) in a timely manner.

  • Work as a Validation engineer to develop a component validation plan and ensure that the plan is executed in time to meet program imperatives.

  • Participate in Formal Design, Peer and Quality Valve reviews as required by the Vehicle Development Process (VDP).

  • Approve Owner/Service Manual/Customer Information Card Content revisions for accuracy, consistency and

  • completeness.

  • Approve all In-process Electrical test plans.

  • Approve specific ALDL/DVT/Diagnostic Tool requirements for all new majors.

  • Support vehicle integration activity for pre-production and production vehicles

  • Interface with Senior System Safety Engineer to Develop the system safety plan for the Aggregator and Extender according to the GM System Safety Engineering Process

  • Lead/participate in issue resolution for design and development issues, ECU warranty analysis, parts restriction and report updates as required to Engineering and Vehicle Team leadership

  • Collaborate in a Scaled Agile product delivery team, comprised of cross-functional company peers and component supplier engineers to continuously prioritize, refine, and deploy component and system features

Requirements

  • Working level knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (Ethernet, CAN, LIN, E-Fuse)

  • Bachelor Degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science

  • Minimum 5 years experience in applying microprocessor based controllers (MCU) to automotive vehicle electrical systems

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area

  • High level of oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent problem solving skills involving complex systems

  • Effective interpersonal skills that focus and influence others, including those which may have priority differences with yours

Desired Skills

  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • High level knowledge of Electronic Hardware and Circuit Design

  • High degree of Program Management skills

  • Experience in the automotive product release and specification process (preferred).

  • Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming

  • High level understanding of hardware design and failure modes in electronic modules

  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software/hardware requirements

  • High level knowledge of software verification/validation processes

  • High level knowledge of hardware validation processes

  • High level knowledge of automotive EMC requirements

  • Experienced in performing system and component level DFMEAs (preferred)

  • Experienced using DFSS (preferred)
