Job Title: Design Lead, LibertyWorks Advanced Development – Compressor Sub-System and Component Tech Lead

Working Pattern: Fulltime

Working location: Indianapolis, IN

As the Compressor Sub-System and Component Design Lead you will lead a technical team in the design, production, testing and certification of Compressor components and systems for LibertyWorks products. In this role, the candidate ensures the project’s sub-system and component definitions meet project requirements by providing technical mentoring and leadership to component design engineers, overseeing interaction between the design team and other engineering areas such as aerodynamic design, thermal and secondary flow, manufacturing, and assembly, and providing requested program technical and project feedback.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

  • Serve as technical point of contact for their sub-system
  • Create technical plans to meet sub-system requirements and work with project leads to integrate into module schedule
  • Provide day-to-day leadership of component engineers towards meeting component and sub-system technical requirements
  • Provide input for sub-system level risks
  • Identify and approve functional and physical interfaces
  • Generate analysis requirements for sub-system
  • Review and approve sub-system level drawings and assembly instructions
  • Provide input for FMEA for sub-system
  • Review design reports for the sub-system and components as required
  • Approve sub-system configuration and Bill of Material
  • As required, review component-level requirement documents, drawings, and analyses
  • As required, present technical data to management and customers

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of demonstrated interest in the mechanical design of gas turbine engines, OR
  • Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of demonstrated interest in the mechanical design of gas turbine engines, OR
  • PhD in degree in in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience leading a small team and/or mentoring other engineers
  • Experience with generic design processes as well as sub-system and component specific design guidance
  • Experience with gas turbine component design
  • A high level of analytical ability to deal with challenging engineering problems and make timely, quality decisions
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment; willingness to accept responsibility and take initiative; ability to plan and coordinate assigned work with other groups; and drive to finish assigned tasks on schedule
  • An excellent command of the English language for both written and oral communications
  • Experience with compressors
  • Familiarity with thermal and secondary flow processes
  • Familiarity with gas turbine components manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with component testing
