Job Description:

arsons is seeking an experienced Freight Rail Design Integration Manager to join our team. In this role, you will lead the integration of all design disciplines—civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, MEP, and architectural—to ensure a cohesive, fully coordinated design package for a major freight rail project in Jordan.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as the central point of contact for all design teams, facilitating communication between rail engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to address issues, align priorities, and resolve conflicts.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a master design schedule, ensuring all disciplines are aligned with project milestones and timelines.

  • Review and validate all design documents (drawings, specifications, reports) to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements, client expectations, and international rail standards.

  • Ensure design solutions are technically sound and meet project-specific requirements, including safety, sustainability, cost efficiency, and constructability for freight rail operations.

  • Establish and implement quality assurance processes to track design quality and resolve design issues promptly throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Manage the design integration process from conceptual through detailed design, ensuring deliverables are completed on time and within budget.

  • Lead design reviews, workshops, and coordination meetings to assess progress, identify risks, and propose solutions to design-related challenges specific to freight rail systems.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure effective information exchange and alignment on project goals.

  • Identify potential design risks and conflicts early, including spatial clashes, regulatory issues, and design inconsistencies.

  • Lead risk management processes and develop mitigation strategies to avoid delays or cost overruns.

  • Proactively monitor project progress to ensure design integration aligns with overall project schedule, scope, and quality standards.

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and stakeholders to support interdisciplinary collaboration and timely resolution of design conflicts.

  • Ensure design integration meets functional requirements of all disciplines while supporting operational efficiency, safety, and performance expectations.

  • Coordinate between design teams to resolve technical issues, discrepancies, or conflicts arising from differing design approaches or construction methodologies.

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of integrated design documentation, ensuring reports, drawings, and specifications are current, comprehensive, and properly archived.

  • Prepare regular design progress reports and updates for senior management and stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and milestones.

  • Ensure design documentation aligns fully with project contracts, including scope, timelines, budgets, and quality requirements.

  • Communicate design progress and integration efforts to key stakeholders, including clients, senior management, and regulatory authorities.

  • Present design integration strategies, technical solutions, and updates at project meetings to ensure stakeholder alignment.

  • Ensure design-related changes or issues are clearly communicated to all parties to minimize misunderstandings.

  • Integrate sustainability and environmental considerations into the design process, incorporating energy-efficient and green design solutions where applicable.

  • Encourage innovative design solutions that support cost savings, operational efficiency, and advanced technologies for freight rail infrastructure.

  • Ensure designs meet applicable sustainability certifications and incorporate resilient, durable materials and systems.

  • Monitor and manage the design integration budget, ensuring disciplines remain within financial constraints.

  • Optimize resource allocation to support timely completion of design activities while maintaining quality standards.

  • Work closely with project managers to forecast and allocate resources to meet project demands.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in design integration or project management, including significant experience on large-scale freight rail infrastructure projects.

  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and integrating complex requirements across multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Strong expertise in design coordination, integration, and project delivery, with a track record of completing freight rail projects on time and within budget.

  • Excellent understanding of engineering principles, design documentation standards, and construction processes related to freight rail systems.

  • Strong knowledge of design coordination processes, BIM, and integrated project delivery methodologies.

  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution capabilities, particularly in managing design risks and interfaces.

  • In-depth knowledge of applicable construction codes, standards, and regulatory requirements for freight rail infrastructure.

  • Experience with freight rail design and construction processes, including specialized systems such as signaling, track alignment, and rolling stock facilities.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring

  • Professional certifications such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Project Management Professional (PMP).

  • Familiarity with Agile Project Management methodologies and tools.

  • Expertise in BIM and CAD tools including Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.

  • Experience using design integration and project management platforms such as Procore, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Project.
