Arriva TrainCare is seeking a motivated and safety‑focused Depot Shunter to join our Light Maintenance team at our Crewe depot. This is a varied, hands‑on role that plays a vital part in the safe and efficient movement of rail vehicles, supporting day‑to‑day depot operations and ensuring customer requirements are met to the highest standards.
As a Depot Shunter, you will be responsible for controlling and directing the movement of rolling stock on and around the depot. Working closely with depot teams, train drivers and the signal box, you will ensure all arrivals, departures and on‑site movements are carried out safely, efficiently and in full compliance with operating procedures and safety standards.
Your day‑to‑day duties will include fuelling traction units, managing CET and water systems, coupling and uncoupling vehicles, operating hand points, and supporting the smooth throughput of vehicles through the depot. You will operate depot protection systems, maintain excellent housekeeping standards, and ensure all tooling and equipment is used and maintained correctly.
This role is safety‑critical, requiring a strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards at all times. You will also complete all necessary documentation accurately and participate in training, briefings and safety tours, supporting continuous improvement across the depot.
You’ll be part of a professional, supportive team where safety, respect and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do. We offer structured training, development opportunities across different types of rolling stock, and the chance to build a long‑term career in the rail industry.
If you take pride in working safely, enjoy a fast‑paced operational environment and want to make a real difference every day, we’d love to hear from you.
