About the Role:
HP has established 2030 science‑aligned emissions reduction targets and a 2040 Net Zero ambition as part of its long‑term business and sustainability strategy. The Climate Team supports delivery of these commitments by coordinating decarbonization strategy, strengthening climate data governance, ensuring standards and regulatory readiness, and enabling informed decision‑making across the company.
The Climate Team operates as a tightly meshed, highly collaborative group, with multiple interdependent workstreams spanning decarbonization execution, LCA, supply chain engagement, corporate climate metrics, reporting, and industry engagement.
As the Decarbonization Strategy & Carbon Leadership Lead, you will partner closely with the Climate team and the larger Decarbonization PMO acting as a horizontal strategy and subject matter layer to the PMO’s multiple workstreams and program members bringing in external insights on the evolving state of the art in decarbonization and translate those insights into clear, actionable strategy, and ensure HP’s pathways remain credible, accurate, and aligned with both business needs and external expectation. The role will also own vertical workstreams within the PMO on defining the industry consortia engagement strategy and managing overall decarbonization metrics reporting towards leadership.
This is a mission‑driven, influence‑heavy role requiring strong strategic thinking, executive communication skills, and the ability to act as a change agent across a complex global organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Decarbonization Strategy Leadership (Primary Accountability)
- Develop and influence HP’s decarbonization strategy, serving as the strategic counterpart to the Decarbonization PMO and informing decarbonization workstreams led by Climate, Supply Chain and GBU colleagues.
- Act as a horizontal strategy function, ensuring coherence and alignment across multiple initiatives.
- Expand HP’s internal expertise on evolving climate standards and mechanisms, including:
- SBTi updates and evolving expectations
- GHG Protocol developments
- Carbon removals approaches and market trends
- Financial mechanisms such as carbon pricing and internal/external incentives
- Ensure HP’s decarbonization pathways remain credible, accurate, and industry‑leading, grounded in best‑available science, standards, and market practice.
- Actively connect with external experts, advisors, and industry consortia to understand the current state of the art in decarbonization pathways and emerging solutions.
- Integrate customer expectations, industry benchmarks, and competitive insights into decarbonization strategy, ensuring alignment with HP’s overall business framework and priorities.
- Translate external signals and technical developments into clear strategic guidance for the PMO and leadership, highlighting implications, tradeoffs, and decision points.
- Inform HP’s medium‑ and long‑term decarbonization direction, identifying strategic opportunities, risks, and dependencies.
2. Carbon Leadership & Market Differentiation Strategy
- Support the definition and evolution of HP’s strategy to differentiate through carbon leadership and decarbonization credibility.
- Work closely with internal partners across the Commercial Organization, GPC & SI, Climate Team, and Communications to:
- Shape credible carbon leadership narratives
- Align technical delivery with customer‑facing value propositions
- Ensure consistency between strategy, execution, and market positioning
- Help position HP as a trusted and credible leader in carbon accounting and decarbonization, grounded in transparency and delivery.
3. Industry Influence & Collective Action Strategy
- Define and support HP’s strategy for influencing industry‑wide change in support of its decarbonization objectives.
- Partner with Government Affairs, Public Policy, and GPC/SI colleagues to support engagement in industry consortia and initiatives (e.g., PAIA, SCC).
- Ensure HP’s participation in external forums:
- Aligns with internal priorities
- Advances systemic change supporting HP’s goals
- Feeds insights back into internal strategies and roadmaps
- Act as a thought partner to colleagues leading external engagement and advocacy.
4. Decarbonization Metrics, Reporting & Change Leadership
- Own the overall framing and strategic narrative of HP’s decarbonization progress for senior leadership.
- Coordinate with Climate data, reporting, and PMO teams to ensure consistent, credible reporting of progress across carbon, renewable electricity, and other priority indicators.
- Translate complex data into clear leadership‑level insights, highlighting progress, risks, and implications for business decisions.
- Act as a change‑maker and advocate for business transformation to decarbonize, helping leaders understand what decarbonization means for how HP operates and competes.

Requirements
- Advanced degree in Sustainability, Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in climate strategy, decarbonization, sustainability, or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic advisor in complex, matrixed organizations.
- Strong understanding of value‑chain decarbonization, climate standards (SBTi, GHG Protocol), and emerging mechanisms such as carbon pricing and removals.
- Experience engaging with external experts, industry groups, and consortia.
- Demonstrated experience working with large, complex datasets and translating insights into executive‑level strategy.
- Strong communication and influence skills, including comfort engaging senior leadership.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken), with demonstrated experience communicating complex technical, strategic, and executive‑level content in a global, cross‑cultural environment.
- Proven ability to work effectively in highly collaborative, cross‑functional teams.
