Job Description

Texas A&M University–San Antonio (A&M–SA) seeks a forward-looking, student-centered leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Business. 

The Dean reports directly to the Provost and provides strong leadership and direction to a robust college of approximately 39 full-time faculty members in two departments: Accounting & Finance and Management & Marketing. In 2023, the College was awarded AACSB accreditation and also moved into a new $53 million building that is shared with the University's library. The next Dean will need to work closely with faculty, staff, and University leadership to ensure high-quality, relevant academic programs that prepare students for successful careers and further economic development within San Antonio and the region. This individual must be able to build strong relationships with business, industry, and community partners to understand their needs and identify opportunities for collaboration. The College sits in a young, dynamic university, requiring a Dean with an entrepreneurial spirit and a strategic mindset.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in a field related to those represented in the college

  • Eligible for tenure at the rank of Professor

  • A distinguished record of research, teaching, and scholarly accomplishment

  • Demonstrated experience as an administrator, including effectively managing budgets and resources

  • Knowledgeable about higher-educations policies and shared governance

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience working with AACSB and the ability to provide leadership and support to obtain and maintain AACSB accreditation

  • Ability to effectively work with the business community and industry to build partnerships and raise external funds.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and communicate a vision for the College that is consistent with the University's mission and vision as given in the strategic plan and develop plans and priorities to support the achievement of the University's goals.

  • Initiate and support activities resulting in continuous improvement of undergraduate and graduate teaching and faculty research, including program accreditation, ongoing curriculum review, and quality assurance through the College's institutional effectiveness report. 

  • Develop plans for intermediate and long-term College growth in consultation with department chairs, faculty, and staff. Integrate these plans into the College's institutional effectiveness plan and strategic plan. 

  • Ensure compliance with College, University, state, and national expectations and standards, including state standards for approved programs and national standards for accreditation. 

  • Supervise the administrative staff and department chairs in the conduct of the routine business of the College. 

  • Support the University's student recruitment programs and develop college-level student-recruitment programs serving both traditional and non-traditional students. 

  • Maintain programs for effective academic advising, degree planning, and maintenance of student records and certify students for graduation. 

  • Supervise the development of personnel policies and procedures within the College and ensure compliance and consistency with University-wide faculty personnel policies and procedures. 

  • Identify faculty and staff personnel needs and demonstrate a commitment to the recruitment, advancement, and retention of faculty and staff. 

  • Support and promote faculty success in research and scholarship.

  • Develop and manage the budget for the College and pursue external funding that will support faculty, staff, and students.

  • Build partnerships and relationships with external constituents and industry.

  • Provide support to student organizations and activities. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
