As a DATA SCIENTIST, you will gather and analyze facts, determine the accuracy of data, apply technical proficiency in use of current software functionality and research ways to improve production and/or increase the quality of the work product.

Major Duties:

  • Organizational Location: This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, within Field Operations Headquarters (Division 2) and are assigned based on the need of the agency.
  • Review data related with business and technical process to evaluate improvements for efficiencies; evaluate existing technologies used to better highlight trends, findings and improvements through statistical and information technology modifications.
  • Perform a wide range of analysis on different datasets and unique problems associated with established methodologies to identify areas for improvement and to generate new business requirements for future implementation.
  • Assist and lead efforts associated with prioritization and collection of analytical datasets required to create data visualizations (i.e., dashboards) in coordination with information technology resources.
  • Evaluate and produce recommendations on how algorithms can be used in the organization to solve graph matching problems in graph theory.
  • Represent FOD and/or the Agency at meetings and conferences; respond to ad-hoc projects; complete research projects that arise from other projects within FOD; train employees in new and existing procedures and protocols; and serve as an consultant.
  • Coordinate with information technology and contractor resources on a frequent basis to assist with implementing new policies and tasks associated with enhanced records processing.

Qualifications: The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 12/18/2025. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. GS-14: You qualify at the GS-14 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Conducting studies, analyzing findings and recommendations on substantive administrative systems leveraging technical programming, data query, and analysis tools such as Python, Tableau, or Databricks. Applying knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques. Performing a variety of analytical studies and projects related to management improvement, administrative workflow improvement, internal controls, and long-range planning. Providing recommendations to parties dealing with various management levels throughout the agency or organization. Resolving broad and/or complex problems and issues associated with the planning, coordinating, and implementation of agency programs and activities.
