About Karat
We're building the one-stop shop for creator finances.
Your favorite digital creators—the ones you follow every day on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or Twitch—aren’t just extraordinarily talented personalities and community builders. They’re also businesses. That means they have business needs—managing revenues, expenses, savings, credit, and banking. We’re building products that help creators spend less time worrying about finances so they can focus on creating.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Data Product Engineer to help us turn data into one of Karat’s most powerful product advantages.
This is a high-impact, highly cross-functional role for someone who thinks like a product builder but operates deep in the data stack. You’ll own the systems that transform raw data into trusted models, internal insights, and customer-facing experiences that drive real business outcomes.
Beyond building pipelines and dashboards, you’ll explore how to productize data — powering internal decision-making, enabling smarter automation, and creating data experiences that delight customers. You’ll work across analytics, data engineering, and product surfaces to ensure our data is not just accurate, but actionable and beautifully expressed.
If you love turning messy data into elegant, high-leverage products that people actually use, this role is for you.
This position is based in Los Angeles, CA.
The compensation for this role is between $130k to $170k.
What you’ll do:
Build the data foundation
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data models in Snowflake
- Develop reliable ETL/ELT pipelines to ensure timely, trustworthy data
- Improve data quality, testing, and observability across the stack
- Establish best practices for metrics definitions and semantic consistency
Productize data internally
- Build high-impact datasets and dashboards in Sigma used across product, ops, risk, and finance
- Partner with teams to turn ambiguous questions into clear, trusted metrics
- Automate manual reporting and operational workflows
- Drive adoption and best practices for data usage across the company
Ship customer-facing data experiences
- Help design and build data features embedded in Karat’s product surfaces
- Create clear, intuitive data visualizations that help creators understand their business
- Partner with product and design to translate complex financial data into simple UX
- Identify opportunities to turn internal insights into customer value
Leverage AI and automation
- Build AI-powered workflows that unlock more value from Karat’s data
- Support LLM-enabled analytics and internal copilots
- Explore new ways to combine structured data + AI for step-function leverage
What you'll need:
- 4+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or data-heavy product roles
- Exceptional SQL skills and strong data modeling fundamentals
- Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines (dbt, Airflow, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake or modern cloud warehouses
- Strong Python (or similar) for data workflows and automation
- Experience with BI tools (Sigma, Looker, Mode, etc.) and semantic layers
- Strong product intuition — you care about usability, clarity, and impact
- Comfort working cross-functionally with product, ops, risk, and finance
- High ownership mindset and bias toward shipping
Nice to have:
-
Experience building customer-facing analytics or data products
-
FinTech or payments experience
-
Experience with reverse ETL or operational analytics
-
Familiarity with data visualization best practices and UX principles
-
Experience building AI/LLM-powered data workflows
-
dbt experience
Why Karat?
- Huge opportunity. The creator economy just flew past a $50b milestone despite zero infra for creator banking. It’s our race to lose.
- Fascinating problems. We want to empower creators to focus on what they love and what matters most—being creative and growing their creator business. We are trying to figure out how to make the headaches and challenges of financial services easy.
- The right team. We’ve got a diverse team with talent from top companies (e.g., Goldman Sachs, McKinsey), previous startup founders, and folks who create content and understand the space! We work hard together and have fun at dinners, on hikes, and even over zoom (despite the oxymoron).
- Culture. We love hanging out with board games, delicious dinners, and brisk hikes as much as we enjoy delving into personal philosophy, management theory, and nitty gritty business details. Don't be afraid to bring yourself to work!
- Resources and growth. We’re well capitalized from top investors like Signal Fire and Union Square Ventures; CEOs from YouTube, Twitter, Wealthfront, and CAA; and investors including Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Y Combinator, CRV, and Coatue. We keep a lean team, and this is a rare opportunity to join. You’ll learn a lot, build foundational products, and grow as our company scales.
