As a Data Engineer at Salesforce within the Competitive Intelligence organization, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and manage robust data solutions that support our competitive analytics and business intelligence initiatives, building scalable and efficient data pipelines, optimizing data workflows, and ensuring data quality and reliability. The work you do serves as the backbone for all competitive reporting at Salesforce, powering the tools which allow the company to make strategic decisions against our top competitors.
This role will encompass architecture, design, implementation, and testing to ensure we build next-gen analytics tooling right and release them with high quality. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet the needs of the organization, owning the strategy from concept to production and refinement of the tools and data. This role is ideal for someone that can combine strategic thinking with technical fluency. The ideal candidate will be able to build on the definition of what the Competitive Intelligence team does and what the existing data infrastructure delivers. They can deliver the data strategy for our next-gen analytics tools, to take the measurable insights unearthed by Salesforce to new heights. The ideal candidate has experience working in a variety of data engineering roles, and excels in environments requiring collaboration.
Competitive Data Strategy responsibilities include:
Data Strategy Lead: Develop and own the data strategy for Competitive Intelligence KPIs at Salesforce. This includes refining existing data pipelines and creating
Drive Data Innovation: Identify new use cases, data sources, and integrations that extend the analytics functionality and business value to augment the Competitive team, GTM and product organizations.
Own Feedback Loop: Lead user acceptance testing (UAT) for Analytics Tool-related launches, coordinating across cross-functional teams (Competitive Team, Corporate Strategy, cross-functional business partners).
AI Component Development: Lead the hands-on creation of the semantic layer and embedding pipelines necessary for grounding Agentic AI in Competitive data.
Technical Mentorship: Act as a technical pillar for a specialized team of Competitive Intelligence experts, fostering technical excellence and elevating the overall skill set of the organization.
Strategic Technical Roadmap: In partnership with Data & Analytics team, Slack product team and Tableau product team, define the technical vision for data strategy in Slack, aligning with the broader Slack-first initiative for Salesforce.
Operational Excellence: Establish and enforce rigorous technical standards for data quality, latency, and index freshness to ensure tools provide reliable, real-time insights.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Decision Scientists, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Engineering Leaders to translate complex business needs into scalable, production-ready technical solutions.
Required Skills & Experience
7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
Required: Proficiency in data engineering tools and languages, specifically SQL
Required: Experience with the Salesforce Ecosystem, specifically Tableau and core CRM products
Strong understanding of database concepts, data modeling, and ETL processes with tools like Airflow, dbt, Informatica, etc.
Experience with cloud-based data solutions (e.g., Snowflake, AWS) a plus.
Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a cross-functional environment.
