WHAT YOU WILL DO:

EOS IT Solutions is seeking highly skilled and adaptable Data Center Surge Technicians to join a centralized travel team supporting data center operations across North America.

This team is deployed to support new site turn-ups, large-scale infrastructure deployments, SLA recovery efforts, and critical operational gaps. Technicians are expected to operate in fast-paced, high-pressure environments and deliver immediate impact with minimal onboarding.

This is not a site-based role. It is a travel-intensive, rapid-response position designed for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and can quickly stabilize and scale operations.

Deployment Scope

Surge Technicians are deployed based on business need, including:

  • New data center builds, expansions, and site turn-ups
  • High-volume deployment events (rack lands, infrastructure scaling)
  • SLA recovery scenarios (backlog reduction, performance stabilization)
  • Temporary coverage for staffing gaps or critical skill shortages

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deployment & Infrastructure Execution

  • Execute high-volume rack and stack deployments in live and non-live environments
  • Install, terminate, and manage fiber (single-mode and multi-mode) and copper cabling systems
  • Perform fiber splicing, cleaning, testing, and troubleshooting, including OTDR testing and fault isolation
  • Support physical infrastructure builds including cable routing, ladder racking, and power distribution
  • Read and validate port maps, rack elevations, and infrastructure designs

Repair & Break/Fix Operations

  • Diagnose and repair hardware issues across servers, switches, and network components
  • Replace defective components (PSUs, NICs, fans, etc.) with minimal disruption
  • Execute live service swaps and support production environments under SLA constraints
  • Perform physical layer troubleshooting (ports, cabling, connectivity)

Operational Execution & Accountability

  • Rapidly integrate into new sites and contribute within 24–72 hours of arrival
  • Follow MOPs, CMOPs, and safety protocols with strict adherence
  • Accurately document work through ticketing systems and operational logs
  • Support both planned deployment work and reactive break/fix scenarios
  • Operate effectively in client-facing environments with high visibility and accountability

Performance Expectations

  • Deliver measurable output aligned to deployment targets, ticket closure rates, and SLA performance
  • Maintain high quality and accuracy with minimal rework
  • Adapt quickly to new environments, teams, and operating conditions
  • Demonstrate strong ownership, reliability, and consistency across deployments

Travel & Deployment Expectations (Critical)

  • Ability to mobilize within 24–48 hours of notice
  • Willingness to travel 70–90% of the time across multiple U.S. locations
  • Ability to support extended deployments (2–4+ weeks or longer) based on business demand
  • Comfortable working and living in hotel-based environments for extended periods
  • Flexibility to work day/night shifts, overtime, and weekends during surge events

This role is best suited for individuals who prefer dynamic, travel-intensive work environments over fixed-site assignments.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • 2–5+ years of hands-on experience in data center operations, infrastructure deployment, or break/fix repair
  • Strong experience with rack and stack, cabling, and hardware installation
  • Proven experience with fiber (splicing strongly preferred, OTDR testing, troubleshooting)
  • Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper, Arista, and x86 server hardware
  • Experience with low voltage systems and industry standards (BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA)
  • Ability to read technical diagrams, port maps, and infrastructure documentation

Tools & Systems Exposure

  • Experience with ticketing/workflow systems (e.g., ServiceNow or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure documentation, inventory, and asset management systems
  • Ability to operate within client-specific tools, dashboards, and reporting environments

Success Profile (Behavioral & Leadership Traits)

  • Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with minimal direction
  • Strong ownership mindset; takes initiative and drives work to completion
  • Calm under pressure; able to prioritize and execute in high-stress situations
  • Team-oriented with a no-ego, “get it done” mentality
  • Strong communication skills across technical teams, leadership, and client stakeholders
  • Highly reliable and accountable; trusted to represent EOS in client-facing environments

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, stand for extended periods, and operate in varying environmental conditions
  • Manual dexterity to handle small and complex components

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
  • Willingness to complete background checks and client-specific onboarding requirements
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence

Why This Role Matters

This team is critical to EOS’s ability to support rapid growth, large-scale deployments, and high-priority operational needs across its data center footprint. Surge Technicians are trusted to step into complex environments and deliver results immediately, ensuring service continuity and client success.
