Data Center Engineer II will be responsible for working alongside members of the Data Center Services Team to support the day-to-day operational needs of State Employee’s Credit Union’s mission critical data centers. This role will be responsible for the installation and cabling of enterprise class technology hardware, management of data center assets, troubleshooting hardware issues, maintaining change control process in the data center, and supporting 3rd party vendor activities. Support for problem resolution is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
This position will work with the Data Center Services team in a support and assist capacity with guidance from senior members and management. This role will be able to execute small projects independently and work with the team during planning and execution larger projects. The Data Center Engineer II will be expected to be self-motivated utilizing problem solving skills to resolve issues and being proactive in engaging additional resources when needed during problem resolution or project implementation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Day-to-day the duties of this roll will encompass those of the Data Center Engineer I and:
- Assist with the receiving and shipping of hardware and RMAs
- Assist with the installation and decommissioning of hardware in data and operation centers
- Assist with the installation, testing, and validation of cabling infrastructure
- Work with Data Center Engineers to apply diagnostic methods to troubleshoot data center equipment
- Assists with data center hardware management interface configuration
- Respond to requests for support of hardware in data and operation centers
- Coordinates with teams throughout the organization during problem resolution, project implementation and scheduled maintenance
- Coordinate and work closely with 3rd party service providers
- Update data center asset management system as required
- Document and track all assigned data center related issues and tasks via the Remedy ticketing system
- Assist in creating and updating as built documentation such as rack level and cabling diagrams along with business continuity documentation
- Assist in capacity planning and management of data center infrastructure
- Assist in deploying system firmware updates to keep hardware platforms up to date, compliant with standards, and vulnerabilities remediated
- Use of DCIM tools to manage and maintain the data center environment.
- Keeps work area organized and efficient
- Other tasks as required by management
- Attend training relevant to SECU Data Center support
Qualifications, Skills, & Education:
- College degree or equivalent experience in a technology related field a plus
- 1 - 3+ years of IT operations experience working in an enterprise infrastructure. Familiar with troubleshooting and investigating complex issues within a highly regulated and complex environment.
- Industry related certifications a plus

- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Strong knowledge of a physical IT infrastructure (connectivity, server, networking, storage)
- Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure (power, cooling, backbone connectivity)
- Good understanding of network concepts (switching, routing, perimeter security)
- Good understanding of server class operating systems (Windows, Linux)
- Competent with Remedy change management system
- High level of written and oral fluency in English
- Must be able to cooperate and collaborate with co-workers.
- Strong Multi-tasking skills
- Ability to safely lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Ability to spend long periods of time on your feet in a data center environment.
- Flexibility to work outside normal scheduled hours when needed (24x7 environment)
- Ability to adhere to established work schedule, attendance, policies, and dress code
