Do you have experience designing and implementing robust data architectures and models that drive business intelligence initiatives? Reporting to the Platform Owner, Data & Analytics, you will lead the design and implementation of LCBO's modern data platform. You will also collaborate with IT Product Owners, Platform Teams, and business partners to ensure that data solutions are secure and scalable. The Data Architect plays a crucial role in providing the team with actionable insights from its data assets while maintaining data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.

About the Role

Solution Architecture

  • Lead the design and architecture of data solutions built on Microsoft Fabric, including data lakes, warehouses, and integration architectures that enable effective data management across the organization
  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models and scalable Lakehouse structures that support business intelligence, analytics, and reporting initiatives
  • Define reference architectures, Direct Lake standards, medallion modeling, and platform design principles
  • Collaborate with IT Product Owners and Platform Teams to define data integration strategies that align with the overall enterprise architecture and support seamless data flows
  • Ensure that data architecture supports both on-premise and cloud solutions while enhancing accessibility and performance

Data Governance and Compliance

  • Define and implement data governance principles and best practices to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to establish data management policies, standards, and frameworks that align with organizational objectives
  • Establish governance standards for metadata, lineage, cataloging, RLS/OLS, and RBAC
  • Monitor data quality metrics and compliance standards across all data initiatives, identifying and addressing issues proactively to mitigate risks
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits of data repositories and workflows to ensure adherence to established governance frameworks

Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams

  • Work with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate these requirements into actionable data solutions
  • Facilitate discussions amongst teams to ensure understanding and alignment on data strategies and architecture
  • Assist in the implementation of data solutions, collaborating with development teams to ensure that architectural designs are executed effectively
  • Identify opportunities for enhancing team collaboration and knowledge sharing around data management practices

Improvement & Innovation

  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in data architecture and analytics.
  • Advocate for and implement innovative solutions that enhance data capabilities and drive business value.
  • Evaluate Fabric feature releases, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Champion DataOps, CI/CD for Fabric and Power BI, and automation-driven improvements
  • Propose enhancements to platform strategy, governance maturity, and engineering excellence

About You

  • Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related experience
  • 5+ years of experience with data architecture, data modeling, or a related role, with a strong focus on designing data solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience with data integration, ETL processes, and database management systems
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Pipelines, Warehouse, Spark, and Direct Lake)
  • Experience in semantic modeling, Lakehouse design, governance, MDM, lineage, and security frameworks
  • Experience working with cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) and familiarity with data warehousing concepts and technologies
  • Strong understanding of data architecture principles, data modeling techniques, and database design methodologies
  • Proficiency in data management and analytics tools, as well as familiarity with programming languages relevant to data manipulation
