Position Summary

Agile Defense is seeking an experienced Data Architect to support our U.S. Army customer in advancing its data-centric modernization objectives. This role serves as both a strategic advisor and technical architect, responsible for designing and operationalizing data governance frameworks, policies, and strategies that align with Army and DoD data mandates. The ideal candidate brings a blend of enterprise data architecture expertise, policy development experience, and organizational leadership, with a proven ability to collaborate across military, civilian, and contractor teams. This position also plays a key role in developing data literacy programs that build the Army’s workforce capability to leverage data as a strategic asset.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy and Architecture
· Develop and maintain an enterprise-level data architecture roadmap aligned with the Army’s Digital Transformation and Data Strategy.
· Define and document standards for data modeling, metadata management, master data, and interoperability across mission systems including Palantir, WebMethods, Oracle/SQL Server, Microsoft Dataverse.
· Partner with system engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and IT leadership to ensure secure and compliant data architectures.
· Advise Army leadership on data modernization opportunities, architecture integration, and system-to-system interoperability.
Data Governance and Policy Development
· Lead the design and implementation of an enterprise data governance framework, including policy development, stewardship roles, and decision structures.
· Collaborate with Records Management, Cybersecurity, and Legal/Compliance teams to ensure adherence to federal and Army data mandates.
· Support Army governance boards and working groups, providing policy recommendations and architectural insights.
Workforce Enablement and Data Literacy
· Develop and implement a data literacy curriculum tailored to Army personnel, supporting readiness, operational data use, and analytics adoption.
· Deliver training sessions, workshops, and toolkits to improve data fluency across leadership, analysts, and functional operators.
· Serve as a champion for data-driven culture, mentoring teams on best practices for governance, quality, and ethical use.
Leadership and Collaboration
· Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary data team (engineers, analysts, stewards) in developing and enforcing governance and architecture standards.
· Collaborate with Army program offices, integrators, and command data officers to align strategies and promote interoperability.
· Represent the contractor organization in Army and DoD data councils, working groups, and Communities of Practice.
· Drive stakeholder engagement to ensure adoption of governance models and alignment with mission priorities.

Qualifications
Required:

· Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
· 8+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, or data governance within a federal or defense environment.
· Demonstrated experience developing or implementing enterprise data policies, governance frameworks, and standards.
· Familiarity with U.S. Army organizational structure, command hierarchies, and operational data systems.
· Strong understanding of DoD data policies, including the DoD Data Strategy, Army Data Plan, and Federal Data Strategy.
· Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to senior military and civilian leadership.
· Experience leading cross-functional data teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
· Security+ certification
· Experience with SQL, Palantir, Microsoft products (Power BI, Power Apps, Dataverse)
· Experience with R/Python

Preferred:
· Prior experience supporting U.S. Army or DoD programs as a federal contractor.
· Certification in data management or architecture (CDMP, DGSP, TOGAF, DCAM, etc.).
· Experience with cloud data ecosystems (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, MilCloud) and modern data architectures (e.g., data mesh, data fabric).
· Experience developing and delivering training programs or data literacy curricula.
