Data Analyst - Institutional Research

Job Summary:

Contribute to institutional research initiatives and collaborative analytical projects by gathering, reviewing, and analyzing diverse datasets, including survey data, and developing institutional analytics and research products that inform strategic planning, operational decision making, and policy development across the district.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage routine and ad hoc data collection and reporting cycles that are focused in scope and design, ensuring the accurate and timely fulfillment of all data requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports that integrate tables, charts, and narrative analysis in support of institutional research initiatives.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and analysis phases of applied research studies.
  • Gather and consolidate essential data from internal and external partners to advance Institutional Research initiatives, analytical tool design, and reporting requirements.
  • Execute and refine existing scripts and queries to support data extraction, transformation, and validation processes.
  • Develop and maintain basic dashboards that use clear and foundational data visualizations, applying established best practices to ensure clarity, usability, and accurate interpretation of institutional information.
  • Oversee standalone targeted online survey administration, including preparation, distribution, data management, and reporting to ensure consistent and reliable processes.
  • Participate in institutionwide integrated survey projects, supporting data preparation, response monitoring, and reporting activities.
  • Provide training and advisory support to internal clients on the effective use of reports, dashboards, survey platforms, and assessment results.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to define analytical projects and ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including methodologies, data source descriptions, key assumptions, and user guides to support project transparency and continuity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of higher education data systems and institutional data environments preferred
  • Working knowledge of data management principles and data accuracy standard.
  • Experience working with relational databases and structured data environments
  • Knowledge of survey research design and survey administration practices
  • Understanding of descriptive statistics and introductory analytical methods
  • Knowledge of data visualization standards and dashboard design principles
  • Ability to develop basic dashboards using data visualization tools, Tableau preferred
  • Knowledge of reporting practices and ability to translate analytical results into clear insights for nontechnical audiences
  • Working knowledge of SQL or similar query logic for data extraction and transformation
  • Foundational knowledge of R, Python, or a similar programming language preferred
  • Ability to develop operational reports using Excel, Word, and Adobe tools
  • Basic understanding of project and workflow management practices in analytical environments
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Detail oriented with the ability to identify discrepancies, validate information, and maintain data integrity
  • Ability to learn and adopt new tools with limited direction
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships across the college
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills


Physical Demands, Working Conditions, and Physical Effort
Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions. Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Office environment. Little physical effort required.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in information or data sciences, business or data analytics, statistics, social sciences, planning or assessment, administration, or related fields and one (1) year of related experience.


Preferred
Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field.

Experience in higher education.
