About the Team

As part of our Corporate Marketing group, the Customer Engagement 

(CE) team are the voice of the buyer and the user, delivering customer loyalty, retention, and upsell value against a ~$300M revenue base. Our Customer Engagement team are based in the Netherlands, Singapore and London and combine, customer engagement design, digital execution and performance analysis to ensure buyers and users get the most from our portfolios and their relationship with Elsevier at all stages of their life cycle. 

About the Role         

As a Customer Engagement Manager, you drive commercial retention, account growth, and community engagement from within the existing customer base. You play a key role in building advocacy and supporting customers in articulating a strong business case for renewal to their buying committees.

To enable customer success and long‑term retention, you take a data‑ and design‑driven approach to engagement. You apply a broad mix of marketing strategies - including value‑based engagement, usage insights, user communities, thought leadership, strategic partnerships, lifecycle marketing, and customer testimonials - to create meaningful and measurable impact. As a critical maker and creator, you design and deliver high‑quality, customer‑centric programmes that support success across both customer and corporate markets.  

Responsibilities

  • Drive engagement and growth by identifying and optimising new opportunities in a rapidly evolving digital landscape, supporting renewals, retention, and account expansion;
  • Define and lead engagement and community strategies that increase awareness, adoption, and advocacy, clearly demonstrating the impact of solutions on research outcomes;
  • Execute and scale marketing initiatives in close partnership with product and marketing teams, using data and insights to continuously improve reach, awareness, and usage across Life Science and Engineering portfolios;
  • Build and activate customer advocacy by identifying, supporting, and developing champions within the corporate community.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing and optimising digital marketing and/or buyer and user engagement channels;
  • Strong data-driven mindset, with the ability to generate insights and measure marketing impact;
  • Solid understanding of user adoption, user experience, and lifecycle engagement strategies;
  • Experience working closely with users and customers, ideally within B2B or complex product/portfolio environments;
  • Interest in or hands-on experience with applying AI tools in marketing and optimisation;
  • Proactive and innovative mindset, with a focus on continuously improving engagement and effectiveness.
