Job Summary: This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), House Office Buildings, Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch. The incumbent is a Custodial Worker, performing a wide range of cleaning and other custodial duties in an assigned group of rooms, offices, and public spaces in the House Office Buildings.

Major Duties:

  • The tour of duty for this position is 5:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The hours may change due to operational needs. This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform a wide range of custodial duties in a variety of areas such as common work areas, hallways, building entrance areas, office spaces, restaurant facilities, machine rooms, storage areas, closets, stairways, conference rooms, restrooms, and/or similar type work environments. Wash ceiling fixtures and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Pre-vacuum or move heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment as necessary. Sweep, vacuum, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors with appropriate powered equipment. Clean, adjust, and oil powered equipment, and change rollers, buffers, brushes and other attachments as needed. Remove stains from a variety of surfaces such as carpeting, linoleum, vinyl tile, epoxy floor, wood, marble, tile, sandstone, bronze concrete, stainless steel, porcelain, glass and plastic by use of approved chemicals and specialized cleaning solutions. Clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Replace light bulbs/tubes throughout buildings using ladder and ensure that spent items are turned in according to environmental regulations. Collect and sort recyclable material, including aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, newspaper, and paper, from various locations within the House Office Buildings. Collect all wet waste material from various locations within the House Office Buildings and reline all wet waste containers and disposes of all wet waste materials. Perform other related duties as assigned.
