Certified CS/SPD Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical and hospital tools. In this position, you will be responsible for safe efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments, distribution equipment, and case cart management helping to ensure patients have the best possible healthcare experience. Along the way, you will receive ample support, training and education, including knowledge of the latest, state-of-the-art technologies and concepts. A caregiver in this position works days from 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment.  
  • Perform case pull functions.  
  • Supports departmental initiatives to meet productivity standards and adapt to flexible staffing needs
  • Demonstrates proper handling of equipment, instrumentation, and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
  • Determine appropriate case carts to be built for specialty procedures.  
  • Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatches them to appropriate locations
  • Dispatch case carts to ensure availability for surgical/clinical procedures.  
  • Perform record keeping, ordering, stocking and inventory control.  
  • Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness and assemble instruments according to provided lists, wraps and labels. 
  • Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment. 
  • Upon completing preceptor guidelines, perform preceptor duties and assist in educating non-certified technicians

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Sterile Processing Distribution Certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER) must be maintained 
  • Two to five years of experience in Central Service/Sterile Processing areas 
  • Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), considered 
  • Ability to use Computerized Instrument Tracking System to perform assigned duties, including obtaining instrument count sheets, special handling instructions for instrumentation, documenting sterilization loads, and other tasks 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull and navigate supply carts weighing >than 75 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
