Credit Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Credit Underwriting and Policy Oversight

  • Implement credit underwriting policies and procedures.

  • Independently compute loan loss provisions in line with regulatory and IFRS requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with credit policies and procedures.

  • Provide periodic recommendations to enhance the credit policy based on identified gaps during loan appraisals.

Portfolio Credit risk Monitoring

  • Analyze portfolio performance metrics and trends, including key credit ratios.

  • Supervise the centralized loan processing hub.

  • Oversee loan disbursement in line with credit policy.

  • Manage credit risk exposures within established limits.

  • Monitor risk triggers, covenants, and credit conditions.

  • Consider environmental and social risk considerations in credit assessment.

  • Implement corrective measures for identified credit risks and overdue accounts.

  • Analyze credit risk at both the product and portfolio levels.

Credit Committee Participation and Reporting

  • Assist Chairperson of the Head Office Credit Committee.

  • Prepare a comprehensive monthly credit risk report.

  • Prepare daily Credit Risk reports

  • Stay updated on industry trends, economic indicators, and regulatory changes that may impact credit risk.

  • Ensure that credit risk exposures are managed within the established limits in the credit policy and risk appetite statement

Regulatory Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure alignment and correctness of generated reports.

  • Ensure timely submission of regulatory reports and closure of audit findings.

  • Verify the precision of credit information for all regulatory reports submitted to the central bank.

  • Coordinate credit reference bureau activities and regulatory submissions.

  • Ensure the resolution of customer complaints arising from credit reference bureau information within 15 days.

  • Ensure timely submission of VFZ portfolio information to the credit reference

  • Ensure the accurate and complete submission of VFZ portfolio information to the credit reference

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other departments, such as operations sales teams, to gather and analyze necessary information for credit evaluations

  • Work closely with the Chief Credit officer to implement corrective measures for identified credit risks

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring clear communication and understanding of credit terms and conditions

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders

Supervision and Training

  • Daily supervision of regional credit analysts

  • Participate in training and coaching activities for the regional credit analysts, focusing on cash flow analysis and projections.

  • Participate in training activities for Regional Managers, Branch Managers, Credit Supervisors, Loan Officers and Field Officers based on weaknesses noted in the loan appraisal process.

Collateral Register, Loan file documentation and Customer Visits

  • Ensure the collateral register is consistently updated for all loans submitted to the Credit hub

  • Follow-up to ensure post-disbursement site visits for all individual loan customers.

  • Follow-up to ensure post-disbursement loan documentations are fully complied with.

Miscellaneous

  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance, Accounting, or related field.

  • Master’s Degree will be added advantage

  • Solid understanding of financial principles, credit regulations, and risk assessment methodologies.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in credit risk assessment, financial analysis, portfolio management, loan structuring and re-structuring, and regulatory compliance, with at least 3 years at a managerial level, regional level will be added advantage

  • Proven track record in credit operations and management, including hands-on experience in overseeing the origination and structuring of loans, aligning with the organization's risk appetite.

  • Demonstrated expertise in driving performance and ensuring excellence in credit-related functions.

  • Proven ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure, showcasing resilience and sound judgment.

  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements and a keen eye for ensuring correctness and timeliness in submissions.

  • Understanding of banking practices and policies.

  • Substantial experience in credit administration and supervision, ensuring rigorous oversight of loan processing hubs and adherence to established credit policies and procedures.

Knowledge & Skills and Abilities

  • Good communication, writing & presentation skills.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills to ensure effective collaboration and coordination within the team and with external stakeholders.

  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Must be able to demonstrate sound judgement and initiative with little guidance
