Job Description
- Primary Function - A crane technician must have a minimum of 2,000 hours of relevant work experience and training related to maintaining, inspecting, servicing, repairing cranes and rigging. This individual shall have a working knowledge of how to identify deficiencies and make repairs to mechanical and electrical crane components and associated hoisting equipment.
- Machines, Equipment & Materials Used - All cranes, mobile equipment, appropriate hand, power, alignment and measuring tools, prints and drawings, necessary safety equipment. Machinery, equipment, tools and materials that are used by millwrights, welders, electronic repairmen, maintenance electricians, electrical inspectors, mechanical inspectors, and rigging inspectors.
- Source of Supervision - Manager Maintenance, Manager cranes, Crane Maintenance Foreman, General Foreman Shops, Foreman Shops, Mill Maintenance foreman, Mill Electrical Foreman.
- Essential Job Functions – Must be certified in 1 of the following, Overhead Crane Mechanical Maintenance or Overhead Crane Electrical Maintenance. Take courses and pass tests to be certified in all 4 crafts (Rigging Inspectors, Crane Inspectors, Crane Maintenance Mechanical, Crane Maintenance Electrical) and maintain certifications as a Crane Inspector and Rigging Inspector. Skilled in troubleshooting, alignment, repairing, dismantling, assembling, installing, and inspecting all cranes and rigging. Must understand hand signals and be trained in the operation of all cranes. Must be competent to make calls and remove cranes and rigging from service when deemed unsafe. Must have a valid driver’s license and mobile equipment qualifications.
- Essential Physical Activities - Must be comfortable with heights and able to climb, balance, stoop, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, carry, finger, grasp, feel, hear, talk to communicate, and make repetitive motions. Needs to see to perform maintenance tasks, inspection tasks, drive, and read prints. constantly exerts forces up to 50lbs and frequently exerts forces up to 50lbs to lift, carry, push, pull.
- Work Conditions - Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Exposed to elevated noise levels, vibrations, and extreme cold and heat. Physical Hazards-Close proximity to moving parts and electrical currents, working off elevated lifts and high places, exposure to natural gas, high heat, hot surfaces, molten metal, chemicals, oils and lubricants. Atmospheric conditions may require the use of a respirator.
