CPE ME Engineer

Singapore, South West, Singapore Full time
CPE ME Engineer

Description -

This is a hardware product engineering position, under the LaserJet organization in HP Inc.

Responsibilities

  • You will mainly focus on the laser printer electro-mechanical components (fuser, ITB, paper path etc.) and ISA/ADF (mechanical, scan module, motor, sensor etc.) parts.
  • Include understanding customer print/copy/scan issues, investigating into specific causes for high failure rates and implement fix by hardware changes. The change can be mechanical (gears, movement, plastic/metal parts) or electrical (PCB layout, scan bar, motor, EE component etc), i.e. you need to design the fix.
  • You will need to work with partners from US for regular technical discussions; therefore a strong command of English is necessary.
  • Hands on experience is required, the engineer will have to conduct debug analysis for the failed parts for issue troubleshooting.
  • In the early NPI stage, you will work with the customer assurance team to provide current product hardware performance feedbacks to the R&D team, such that quality issues seen in predecessor design can be eliminated.
  • Before product mass release, you will be responsible to test the new printers for final reliability.
  • You will then work with the R&D and reliability engineers to create custom test plans: life test, hardware component stress test etc. to assure that the printer works within released product specifications and to the appropriate life, with the intended design margins.
  • You will work with R&D for failures investigation and resolution; production ramp will not occur unless all critical failures addressed.
  • You will also participate in mass production trial runs, working with factory operations engineer to assess production readiness (pass/fail criteria, testing/audit plans, hardware debug instructions etc).
  • Besides a regular technical role, you will also be expected to participate or lead in special warranty improvement initiatives for the emerging geographies.
  • You would need to understand the customer environment, usage, workflows etc. to plan for the special tests (and design the improvement/fix) to enhance product performance for use in these geographies.
  • This would be a customer facing role, quite different from lab R&D work. In HP, we do not believe in just getting you to do things that you are good at, we also develop other nontechnical leadership aspects in you.

Skill requirement:

  • Bachelor degree and above: Engineering (ME, EE) degree. Candidates from other discipline will be considered if they have significant relevant work experience.
  • 6 years+ working experience (Bachelor), 4+ years working experience (Master).
  • Having a good knowledge of the electrophotographic process and document scanning in a print/scan/copy laser printer is preferred.
  • Besides the hardware aspect, you should also have good knowledge of how the firmware is interacting with the print hardware, for the whole imaging process.
  • Some knowledge of programming language like C++/Python is advantageous, to understand how the firmware is interacting with the components in the printer.
  • Experience working in copier/laser printer design/failure analysis/manufacturing industry strongly preferred. Knowledge of EP and imaging process (laser imaging, and document scan imaging) preferred.
  • Besides the hardware aspect, you should also have good knowledge of how the firmware is interacting with the print hardware, for the whole imaging process.
  • CAD skills Creo, Solidworks etc.
  • Experience working either in an ODM/CM under the failure analysis department, or managing the ODM/CM in quality/failure rates, is advantageous.
  • Good understanding of EMC tests, component stress tests, and hardware accelerated life testing.
  • Good command of English. Japanese proficiency (N2, N3) advantageous, but not required.
  • Good cultural exposure working with people from these countries: China, US, Japan.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills (KT, fishbone, process control etc.)
  • Good MS office knowledge. Plotting charts and diagrams, creating PPT for issue updates and writing procedural documents.
