Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position. 

The Cost Control Assistant – Capital Projects supports the financial oversight and cost management of capital projects in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. This role is responsible for assisting in entering, tracking, reporting, and forecasting project costs, ensuring vendors are paid accurately and on time, and alignment with budgets and financial controls. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers, finance teams, and procurement to maintain accurate cost data and support effective decision-making.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and accurate cost data entry.

  • Support invoice verification and cost coding in alignment with project structures.

  • Maintain documentation and audit trails for all cost-related activities.

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of project budgets and forecasts.

  • Monitor and track actual project expenditures against budgets.

  • Support the preparation of monthly cost reports and variance analyses.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of cost control systems and tools.

  • Help identify cost trends and potential risks or overruns.

  • Participate in project meetings and provide cost-related input as needed.

What you will bring to the role:

Education:

  • Diploma in an accounting related field.

Experience:

  • 1–3 years of experience in a cost control, project accounting, or financial support role, preferably within capital projects or construction environments.

  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and project management tools is an asset.

  • Exposure to capital project environments in the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors is preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).

  • Experience with cost tracking software or ERP systems.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational, collaboration and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of project lifecycle and capital budgeting processes and familiarity with project cost control principles and financial reporting is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid: work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office Tuesday – Thursday. 

  • Office hours are 8am – 5pm.

  • Minimal Travel requirements.

Additional Details:

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

Hours of Work: 8 hours a day, 37.5 hours a week

Union: CSU52 (A3)

Wage: $32.61

Clearance of Credit check is required for this position.
