Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 15 years experience in mechanical design of power systems and power supplies to join our datacenter power system development team.  The candidate should be experienced in power electronics system design with a track record of producing product designs that have performed well in the marketplace.  Technical knowledge required includes sheet metal, cable, PCB and plastic design, thermal management, DFM, and proficiency with Pro-Engineer.  The individual should also have a deep understanding of complex power systems principles, including cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, ability to set technical standards that enhance product quality and customer satisfaction, capacity to lead interdisciplinary teams in large-scale projects, ensuring effective collaboration across engineering, regulatory, and operational units, and exceptional skills in analyzing and resolving high-stakes design challenges, demonstrating innovation and creativity.  The individual should also possess strong communication skills to engage with executive leadership, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders, effectively presenting complex ideas and solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Solid understanding of AI powering needs including OCP and HVDC systems.
  • Push the envelope on power architecture ideas to provide technical leadership in the development and implementation of next generation data center power system products.
  • Bring in new technologies and possibly new vendors to help team learn quickly.
  • Develop new products, including product concept, thermal analysis and simulation, design documentation, as well as testing and characterization of the design in the lab with the help of technical support staff
  • Assure all component designs meet requirements including time-to-market and product target cost.
  • Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D drawings, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection
  • Create CAD models in a linked model environment using Creo, as well as check, validate, and issue Creo associated drawings
  • Derive electronic data models for use in engineering analysis, manufacturing of tools, fixtures, and gages, and support quality inspections
  • Work as part of cross functional teams including manufacturing, sourcing, global engineering, and systems engineering in developing and on-going support of state of the art DC/DC power systems.
  • Participate in reviews of power system designs and mentor and guide other design engineers.

Job Requirements:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 15 years experience in product development of power system products with track record of developing successful products in high reliability markets.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of data center system products and designs.
  • Experience at data center company is a plus.
  • Thermal management knowledge and testing skills
  • Expertise with Pro-Engineer
  • Good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Effective multi-tasking skills with ability to prioritize multiple assignments and provide Global Technology Support
  • Ability to act as a change agent across cross functional organization (Design, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Supplier and Customer)

  • Ability to prioritize and communicate in a dynamic environment
